Re: New Penn State HC Al Golden
There is a rumor going around that the top three are Franklin, Golden and Munchak. Have also heard that Schiano has been eliminated. This came for a former Penn State player. Not sure if it holds water.

This article gives a pretty good pros/cons analysis of the remaining candidates. I did not realize the Schiano/Sandusky connection, so I can see now why PSU has stayed away from Schiano. It also sounds like Franklin could be called to testify at the trials of four Vanderbuilt players accused of raping an unconscious woman, so I could see why they'd want to avoid that press as well, even though it has zippo to do with PSU:

Penn State is in a heckuva spot right now. You can tell this program has dropped in stature quite a bit when you see articles calling the Louisville job a better one than PSU....
Other than Franklin I don't see many names there that excite me at all.

Not really. Apparently they were discussing the details when Golden gave an ultimatum. He said that Penn State needed to cancel interviews with other candidates and present him with a contract by 4pm on Saturday. Penn State failed to meet his demands.ASUMountaineer wrote:You need new sources, they've been struggling...CitadelGrad wrote:I just heard that the title of this thread is accurate. Do you mean the head and shoulders pattern that showed up right before a 10% decline, just as I predicted?Skjellyfetti wrote:CitadelGrad wrote:I just heard that the title of this thread is accurate. Just been told that it's a done deal and the details are being worked out now.

That came from a couple of good sources. One of them is a former player who is a member of the Letterman Club and is tight with a guy on the search cmte. The other is a the editor of Blue White Illustrated.ASUMountaineer wrote:CitadelGrad wrote:

Apparently, Golden was getting pressure from Miami's administration to make a decision. The word is that Penn State and Golden are still talking on the down low.

Penn State has been on the down low for about 15 years now.

Only 3 assistant coaches left at PSU currently - they need a guy this week.

Man, O'Brien almost held it all together through a near-death penalty experience, and now the wheels are falling off.bluehenbillk wrote:Only 3 assistant coaches left at PSU currently - they need a guy this week.

This isn't really a big deal. O'Brien took most of those guys to Houston. You expect a new HC to clean house anyway. I wouldn't expect the new HC to keep more than one or two who are already on staff. He might not keep any.93henfan wrote:Man, O'Brien almost held it all together through a near-death penalty experience, and now the wheels are falling off.bluehenbillk wrote:Only 3 assistant coaches left at PSU currently - they need a guy this week.
