Today is the day, college baseball opening day. I've been blessed to go to two schools that have top baseball teams (JMU and UGA). Both schools are coming off really great seasons, JMU is returning 20 of it's 25 letterman from last years team that went 39-19 overall, 20-9 in the CAA, won the CAA tournament and received an auto bid to the NCAA tourney. UGA also had a great season last year making it all the way to the College world series in which they were "upset" (I think Fresno St was just underrated) and finished 2nd overall. UGA graduated Gordon Beckham (#8 pick by the White Soxs) and their lights out closer Joshua Fields (Drafted in the first round... I think 26th by the Mariners). UGA also lost another starting pitcher in the 6th round. The team looks good though, but I think loosing Beckham and Fields are a huge impact to the team as Beckham hold most of the offensive records for UGA and I think Fields now holds the Saves record for UGA. Should be some good baseball this year....

NAU unfortunately dropped baseball 25+ years ago - a great shame.
Arizona State has a great team, as usual.

TxSt was pretty good last year and just started their season by winning the tournament they opened with, taking 3 of 4 at the UTA Hilton Invitational. (lost that 4th game in extra innings)
We lost 2 underclassmen to the majors but I am optimistic for 2009.
On deck this year will be UT (2), Baylor (2), TCU (2), Purdue (3), TxTech, TX A&M, Rice (1 each). I think how we do against those teams will be a telling sign

Spent yesterday watching Gonzaga vs Missouri....they were in town along with Georgia for a little round-robin tourney....fun stuff, kinda got my son pumped up as he as going through his lesson with his trainer (who's the recruiting coordinator for Grand Canyon University). Let him see some of the "possibilities".
