Sigh. I've said plenty at Panther Nation, but apparently you aren't supposed to say anything there except that Troy Dannen is the best AD in UNI's history.

It's understandable considering the lack of an on campus baseball facility. Having home games over in Waterloo certainly isn't/wasn't helping matters any.

I remember Hartzell speaking in my Geography of Sport class and mentioning that there were plans to bring the team to campus, but I guess they must have fallen through.

Guess the upkeep of the UNI Dome takes too much away from the budget.

Seriously... if they could build a domed stadium, why the hell couldn't they build a baseball field? We just razed one and built another in 6 months.

The dome was built in 1976...mostly out of private donations I believe.

UNI just built a brand new basketball arena, which needed almost entirely private funds to get done. UNI doesn't produce the big money alum. A lot of teachers, accountants, etc... not a lot of doctors, lawyers, etc...

We shared Riverfront Stadium with the Waterloo Bucks for cost reasons. The team likely would have been cut much sooner if we also had to pay entirely to upkeep a baseball stadium.

calm down clenz. I'm not being all too serious.

Hey, we have UT 30 miles up the road and even our own Alum would rather donate to UT than their alma mater; so I understand that one.

So would UNI then be required to replace baseball? What I mean is,are they required to still have XX number of competitive sports as a DI school?

Not that I know of. The MVC Commish said UNI has no reason to worry about losing our place in the MVC, so I think we are safe.

I've heard/read a lot of conflicting stories on why this is happening...money and/or Title IX. UNI is adding Women's Rugby next year as a D1 sport instead of a club sport, but we still are a ways off in compliance I guess. Baseball only used 8 schollies, so we are only 8 closer to compliance. I'm not sure what the true reason is, but the official release is supposed to come out today...let's see how much BS the University can throw at us.

20 years ago the baseball team played on a field behind the Dome in front of very small crowds. Riverfront would have been a step up facility-wise but has to put a serious crimp in the ability to attract students to games.

Guess it's a done deal.

Real classy, Dannen. Good luck getting donors now, after how badly you botched this news being released. EPIC FAIL, DOUCHEBAG.

Sucks. I was a sophomore when Towson tried to drop football, until the students revolted. Which was suprising to everyone in the athletic department at the time.

Never a good thing when a sports program gets the axe. Hope the players can catch on with another program....
