For some time, Hawaii-Manoa has been pondering on whether to keep football or not. Now the AD may drop it to save the other sports... (Note: BYU-Hawaii has announced that they will be dropping sports)

One quibble I have is with this statement:
Jay is suggesting the only solution may be cutting out the athletic department's biggest money maker (football) to save rest the rest of the sports.
I doubt that football at Hawaii has ever been a "money maker" in terms of having the revenues minus expenses quantity be positive. It's probably always been a negative. Well, maybe not ALWAYS. Maybe if you went back many decades not But in the modern era it's probably always been a negative. Very, VERY few Division I college football programs outside of what we now call the "Big 5" are "money makers" in terms of the revenue minus expenses equation.

I'm sure football at Hawaii generates more revenue than any other sport. But it also incurs way more expense. My bet would be that there are sports at Hawaii that are characterized by smaller annual net losses than football is.
