Overrated #8 OSU just got bitched slapped 35-21 in Columbus in front of 107+k, the biggest crowd ever in Columbus, by an unranked VT team that was something like #37 in Top 25 vote total....

The entire B1G appears to be overrated. Unlikely that there will be a B1G entry in the playoffs this year.

Doesn't help to lose your starting QB the week of the opener.

this. That Navy game was a great window into their game. I'm thrilled that Ohio State lost. They have such an irritating fan base.

Heck the whole Big 10 looked overrated. More like the B1Suck:
Upset losses:
VT 35, #8 Ohio State 21
Central Michigan 38, Purdue 17
NIU 23, Northwestern 15
Worse than expected losses:
#16 ND 31, Michigan 0
#3 Oregon 46, #7 Mich State 27
Ugly wins
#19 Nebraska 31, McNeese 24
Rutgers 38, Howard 25
Iowa 17, Ball State 13

What a turrible (as Chas Barkley says) day for the little 10.
Has a conference ever had a worse day.
Folks it the Power 4 leagues until further notice....

I wouldn't say that Wisconsin and Michigan St aren't any good, remember, both of them went on the road and played in front of hostile crowds in their losses, and they looked good for large portions of the game doing so until they lost. I agree, I don't see a B1G team in the national title hunt this year, but let me know the next time an SEC team travels any real distance and plays a game on campus on the road against a top ranked team in the regular season. Kudos to the B1G for having the balls to schedule like they do.

Since taking over in Alabama I read last week Nick Saban has played one, count 'em, one non conference true road game against a school from a "power" conference - Penn State.

Huh?
This weekend, perhaps?
And, I'm not sure what "real" distance is... so, if Tennessee playing at Oklahoma isn't difficult enough because Oklahoma is too close... they also went on the road to play Oregon last year.

Well, they also played at Duke.
I know there's nothing impressive about that... but, it is a "non conference true road game against a school from a 'power' conference." And a team that has arguably been more successful recently than Penn State.

Missouri joined the SEC two seasons ago. How long ago do you think they scheduled the @Toledo game? I don't know, just asking. I know Delaware has FBS games scheduled out for six years, all @ACC teams.

Was talking about Tennessee playing @ #4 Oklahoma this weekend. Not Missouri - Toledo.

Tulsa, bro. Tulsa. Tulsa played at Oklahoma.

Yeah that's what I meant.
Tulsa had pretty helmets though. I watched the game.

Well, like GF said, that's fucking rare. You hardly ever get an SEC team to leave their stadium for an on-campus game at a power conference. At least Tennessee was willing to go a couple of states over. Kudos.

And at Oregon last year.
But, that's just really dumb scheduling by their prior AD. The Oregon game cost them a bowl game last year. The Oklahoma game may cost them one this year. And, yeah... who gives a shit about going to a shitty bowl game? But, the extra month of practice for a young team is huge.
And, Tennessee has had home-and-home series with Oklahoma, Oregon, Cal, and UCLA in the last decade. Not bad. Yeah, every other year they play one at home. But, that's not weak scheduling.

First of all, Tennessee hasn't been a top team since Fulmer was the coach and the last really good Vols team was back in 2007. You could make an argument that Vandy has been better team in Tennessee these past few years. Not coincidentally, UT's fall from grace seems to tie in nicely with when they started leaving the South to actually play football games - they had the home and home with Notre Dame in 2005, and then the first trip to the West Coast to play Cal happened in 2007. Maybe the other SEC teams saw what happens when you have to leave the region to play football and decided not to? Florida hasn't left the region to play an OOC game since they lost at Syracuse back in '91. It's routine in the SEC to never leave the region. It's just how it's done.

Wait. Tennessee's football program went in the shitter because they scheduled tough OOC games?
They started leaving the South to play football games in 2005?
Really?
I guess their success in the '90s and early '00s was because of scheduling tough OOC outside the South?
1990: Anaheim, CA
1991: South Bend, IN
1994: Pasadena, CA
1997: Pasadena, CA
1998: Syracuse, NY
2001: South Bend, IN
And, I debated including a trip to Miami in 2003. While technically the "South" - we all know Miami ain't really the South, and that was a hell of a non conference game.
And, P.S. They only lost one of those games.
You asked someone to let you know when an SEC team schedules an away game against a top ranked team in the regular season.

I let you know about a game this weekend.
Sorry if you don't like it or wish you phrased your original query differently.

Yeah, geez, you really proved my point. I'm surprised you didn't pull Vandy out as an example. Face it, the good SEC teams stay in the South and almost never venture to play somewhere else against a good team. It's just what they do.
