Haha, they have NCAA emails where they said it was a bluff. They are so fucked.
Penn State is going to get the money and Joe Pa's wins back. Fuck the NCAA and the Big Ten.

At the very least, this is the beginning of the end for Mark Emmert. Potentially it could be the final nail in the NCAA's coffin.

Looks like the NCAA fucked this case up worse than Paterno and Sandusky double teamed that 12 year old boy!

Good thing you didn't say that to Andy's face at Towson last year. He might have eaten both of us, and I'm his sidekick!

Am I the only one who really has to work on feeling any sympathy for Penn State? As bad as the NCAA has been for as long as they have been bad, I still don't feel sorry for Penn State. I root for the kids in the pads but the institution (and Joe)is forever marred in my memory.

How about the Catholic Church? Is it marred forever in your memory as well?

I dunno, maybe I'm too direct, but if child rape and the handling of the perpetrators were hamburgers, then Penn State is your neighbor's backyard barbecue and the Catholic Church is McDonalds. Millions and millions served.

I pulled my three kids out of Catholic schools after seeing the pastors pink cashmere sweater wrapped around his neck while telling me he is pulling the bus , raising tuition and eliminating the multi student discount. I can tell you , the bus, tuition increases had less to do with it than the lisp and pink cashmere.
I guess you're ok with Penn State. I am not. Just like I am not when it occurs in my backyard.
You were Delaware. I am never Penn State.

Good for you on the school move. I mildly pull for Penn State at the FBS level. They were always the closest team worth watching (Temple, Nova, Rutgers, Maryland all historically sucked).

The number of people at Penn State who knew Jerry Sandusky was a pedophile could be counted on one or two hands. Those that knew are either dead (Paterno), or under criminal indictment (Spanier and two others), or turning evidence against those guys facing criminal charges (McQueery - sp). So everyone who was involved is being dealt with. Why the lack of sympathy for the hundreds of thousands of other people associated with Penn State who had nothing to do with this, including the fairly substantial number of people (remember, not everyone likes or follows football) who had nothing to do with the football program in any capacity?

There is no proof that Spanier, Curley, Shultz or Paterno knew that Sandusky was sexually abusing children. The key witness, McQueary, has changed his story so many times that he has lost all credibility. Even the kid in the shower (Victim #2) released a statement through his attorney that he was not sexually assaulted that night and that McQueary's claim that he saw him being sodomized is false. He was sexually abused by Sandusky at other times, but not that night and not on the Penn State campus.
If you want to blame someone for ignoring Sandusky's sexual abuse of children, you can start with soon-to-be former Governor Corbett. When he was the PA AG, he knew of Sandusky, had overwhelming evidence that he was sexually abusing children, yet declined to prosecute.

If there is one or two left who knew and did nothing, it's worthwhile holding back any positive feelings for Penn State and holding the institution responsible. And, it's not about how many knew, it's the culture that existed there at the time this was going on that allowed it to continue.
I don't root against the kids playing now, just have no sympathy when others bring this damn thing up as if Penn State really didn't do anything wrong and the big bad NCAA was picking on them.
Just look at the posts here for examples of the kind of culture that would allow this stuff to go on. We have one poster stating there is no proof that Paterno knew Sandusky was sexually abusing children. WHAT? He had been investigated since 1998 and Paterno was notified of the investigation. That's public record. He knew and was told about it again when McQueary told him he witnessed the shower rape in 2001. He meets with Curley and Schultz and convinces them to not follow through and notify the authorities. It's ten years later before it comes out that Sandusky had been raping little boys.
I don't know how anyone defends this yet we have multiple Penn State defenders here that will! It's a real shame. All to try to maintain a football program.

Children were molested here. There was no time for common sense or calm examination of the facts. Blood needed to be spilled and heads needed to be rolling and the NCAA needed to attack with blind, unfocused rage. At least until people cool off and then we can reduce the penalties.

And the irony is that the legal system was already taking care of this. Why the NCAA felt that this was a sports matter was the big question. Anyone who could and should be prosecuted is either dead, in jail, or is currently being prosecuted. The wrong-doers have/are being dealt with. The rest of it - the school, the thousands upon thousands of people associated with Penn State who had nothing to do with this didn't and don't deserve the scorn that some appear to be happy to heap upon them.

How many people at nova knew that Gary McLain was doing coke before basketball games but kept it quiet because he was one helluva point guard and because the basketball program needed to be protected? How many people at nova knew that Howard Porter had taken money while playing basketball at nova but kept it quiet because he was a stud and because the basketball program needed to be protected? How many people at nova knew that phone cards were being passed out like candy but kept quiet because the basketball program needed to be maintained? Glass houses, man, glass houses.

It is different in the sense that innocent children weren't having their lives permanantly altered for the worse. That doesn't make it right, but equating buggering kids in the shower with doing a bump of coke is ridiculous. And it doesn't surprise me that it came from a Catholic.
