Three Texas High School championship games of this past weekend had attendance exceeding the top bowl attendance of the weekend. Top Bowl attendance wise was the New Orleans Bowl with 34,014. Among attendances at Texas High School State championship games:
6A Division I 52,308
6A Division II 46,289
4A Division I 40,281
And BTW they need to get rid of the bowl system. More than half the teams in FBS go to bowls. The matchups suck. There are awful teams in the context of FBS playing in bowls.
It's time to man up and admit that the bowl system is obsolete and quit talking about the need to preserve it. It's awful. I watched some of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Saturday night because I was at my wife's family Christmas Party and needed something to do. The box score says 18,223 attendance but no way. I don't even now if they had 1,000 people in the stands. I kid you not. If you watched it and saw the rare stadium shots you know what I"m talking about.

Maybe talk to people? Or were they not interested in hearing your statistical analisys of grub worm reproduction?JohnStOnge wrote:http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/high-s ... record.ece

Oh c'mon. Stick to the topic. Did you see any of that game on TV? Did you see any shots of what was in...or not in...the stadium?Maybe talk to people? Or were they not interested in hearing your statistical analisys of grub worm reproduction?
it was like you'd expect to see in a stadium when a team was using the stadium field for a routine practice. And I'm not exaggerating.

To be fair, it was raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock in Boise for most of that game....personally I wouldn't have wanted to sit out in that either.JohnStOnge wrote:Oh c'mon. Re: December 19 Bowls vs. Texas HS Championships Attendance
How many people watched the Texas HS championship games on TV?
I (like most here) prefer the FCS playoffs to the FBS postseason (and certainly the lower-tier bowl games) but there is a reason that lower-tier bowls take priority on TV over FCS playoff games when the two coincide on the same time slots.
If you don't like the lower-tier bowl games don't watch them. I certainly don't watch most of them.

What I want is for people to just decide to have a real FBS playoff (only then it couldn't be called "FBS" anymore) and take a "screw the bowl system" attitude. It'd be a lot more fun this time of year if instead of going through 38 bowl games of which maybe 8 are interesting and probably less than that and have 25 games (if I"m adding right) of a tournament for the highest level of college football.
To me it's kind of like the NIT in basketball. Nobody worries about the fact that the NIT has been relegated to "meh" status by the NCAA basketball tournament. Just quit having all the decisions about college football post season revolve around preserving the bowl system.

They would be playing through the end of January with that many games. Plus not to mention that going that long into the month would cut into recruiting time as well. Although that would be a form of "competitive balancing" by giving the teams that don't make the playoff (if you count the conference championship games, they could start recruiting as soon as the end of November) a HUGE advantage over the teams that play the extra games.JohnStOnge wrote:It'd be a lot more fun this time of year if instead of going through 38 bowl games of which maybe 8 are interesting and probably less than that and have 25 games (if I"m adding right) of a tournament for the highest level of college football.

Here's a thought, who gives a fuck?
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."
