Ok the Bowl thing is officially out of hand

So I'm just scanning scores today and I see that San Jose beat Georgia State in a bowl game. I think, "WTF, Georgia State made a bowl? How the hell does THAT happen?" I look at their schedule. Yes, they finished 6-6 thanks to playing in the mighty Sun Belt. But they lost to 2-10 Charlotte and Liberty.
THEN I look at their opponent. And I see that San Jose State finished the regular season 5-7.
I mean come ON people.

Your whining lately has really gotten out of hand as well.

How many bowl games are there now? 40? Looks like they got rid of the rule that you have to be 6-6 to get in a bowl Game

. I heard there were TWO 5-7 teams in bowl games. So now you can be 5-7, which will usually be 4-7 vs I-A + a win over a I-AA, and you can get in a bowl.. Its only a matter of time before we hit 50 bowl games 4-8 teams in...

I'm perfectly OK with this.
The more FBS gets watered down with this crap, the more likelihood that some borderline 4 star kid who can't get into Alabama will choose an FCS program over an also ran FBS

Who can't get into Alabama? As far as I know, it takes a 2.0 GPA, 3 teeth and some money.

When there are so many bowls that they have to start taking teams with losing records you know it's reached the absurd level. There are 128 FBS teams and they now need 80 to fill out the 38 bowl slots plus the two "College Football Playoff" semifinal slots. That means they need to take almost two thirds of FBS teams to fill all the slots (80/128 = 63%).
What gets me is that the "typcial" fan out there would rather watch one of those awful bowl games than a lower Division playoff game. Going in I was, for instance, much more interested in watching this year's D-III semifinal between Wisconsin Whitewater and Mount Union than I would have been in watching a bowl game between 6-6 Georgia State and 4-7 San Jose State. Mount Union ended up winning 36-6 but going in that was an interesting match up I wanted to see. And WHY would anybody who is not a Georgia State or San Jose State fan want to see that Bowl game? But, sadly, most "typical" fans out there would watch even so crappy a Bowl game as that than something like a playoff game between the two programs that have dominated Division III where the right to go to the championship game is on the line. I can't relate to it. But it is what it is.

JSO: I'll watch just about any bowl game (so long as it's on network TV, as I am on the outs with cable/dish at the moment) just 'cause it's there, but my preference would DEFINITELY be the REAL D-I playoffs. I can only hope, however, that one of these days my Hornets get their heads out of their rears and make the playoffs. At this point, though, the chances of that aren't looking so hot....

It sucks but it happens sometimes. In the NFL, NBA, NHL, etc. It's just rare in college football.
I believe the LA Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2012 or 2013 after finishing the regular season 42-40 and barely got into the playoffs as the 8th seed.

The actual Sun Bowl game wasn't bad, as Wazzu held off the Miami Thuggicanes, 20-14.

To tell the truth, I pass on any college football game that I don't have a rooting interest in. I'll watch a little of the major bowls. A bit of the I-AA playoffs if I happen across them. But rarely an entire game. And I'm so soured on the rules of the NFL, I can only tolerate a full Redskins game once a week.
It's sad. I loved the game so much in the 80's and 90's.

So when the skins have a Thursday Night game, you don't watch?

Kalmy is almost as gay for my posts as bandle used to be.
What part of "I can only tolerate a full Redskins game once a week." didn't you understand?

So you can't tolerate two Redskins games in one week?

Name a sport where that isn't the case.
I'm fine with the bowls. It provides inter-conference matchups and is better than anything else there would be on TV, even if it is just background noise. I get in bowl pools every year so that gives me a rooting interest.

Fair enough. I can watch basketball without caring about either team. Can't do it with football. Maybe its just me.

Headed to Houston today to watch the Advocare V100 Texas Bowl with Texas Tech vs LSU.
Saturday I'll be in the Alamo Dome to watch the Alamo Bowl between Oregon and TCU.
Two of the better matchups this bowl season, if you ask me.

First one because of the TTU Pom-Pom Squad
Second one because the Over/Under is 100

Should I ask the $2 question? Is Z going to Frisco on the 9th?
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

No
1) The TTU pom-pom squad won't be there
2) He's not traveling more than 30 miles
3) He's not getting free tickets

How many of those 42 wins were against minor league teams? Not a good analogy AZ.

Actually, they finished as the 8th seed with only 40 wins.
I'm not going to look it up, but I'm sure they beat Columbus and Edmonton plenty of times.

To be honest, no I probably wouldn't have driven to Houston to watch a Tech/LSU game if my daughter wasn't on the TTU Pom Squad.
But I went to the Alamo Bowl last year and had a blast. Expect I'll have a blast this year too....
And no, I probably won't be driving to Frisco. THAT drive is a fucking bitch. I-35 is perpetually under construction and a 250 mile drive takes about 6-7 hours. No thanks.
