The former Holy Cross star announced he's taking a redshirt year because he's allegedly not getting payed as promised (or whatever the agreement was) by UNLV and/or their boosters.

Wild considering they’re off to promising start and have a huge game against Fresno coming up. If it’s truly UNlV not fulfilling contractual obligations, that would be astounding.

It's his last year of eligibility so maybe he's just super cautious about making sure he makes the most he can right now. It's not like he's a really viable pro prospect, so this is his last payday. If he thinks UNLV isn't living up to what they promised he can either take what they're giving him and play his last year, or take a stand and look for another opportunity for next year. As like what college sports has been and has certainly become even more so, it's a business decision.

Rumor was for a while he was going to follow Chesney to JMU (he visited JMU), as a handful of other HC players did. Couple are starting, including a DB who had 2 picks/1 a pick 6, and a blocked punt scoop and score vs UNC. Anyway, UNLV made a far bigger offer for Sluka, and JMU went with the Washington 2022 starter/2023 backup QB, who got beat out by the current JMU starter (this past weeks AP & Walter Camp Nat POTW).

what obligations? Does Sluka have anything in writing?
My instincts tell me a huckster made him the verbal offer and Sluka took him at his word but all guess work at this point

Remember you can play 4 games and still redshirt. Just wait the next lawsuit the NCAA folds or loses on will be for mid season transfers. Then the floodgates will open to guys who have a great Sept and get better NIL $$$$ offers.

JMU should have back Honorable Mention All Sunbelt rSo QB Alonza Barnett (Passing 2,598 yds, 26 TD, 4 INT), but he suffered an ACL injury last play of game in OT last game of regular season vs Marshall, so didn’t lose him to Portal and he might sit next season. 2 other non senior scholly QBs on roster, but I imagine at least one will Portal out as JMU bringing in addition to Sluka:
