Men Win Title for Triple Crown, Women Take Second
(05/16/2009) MISSOULA, Mont.- The Northern Arizona men’s track and field team captured the 2009 Outdoor Big Sky Championship with 169 points to clinch the third men’s triple crown in NAU, and Big Sky Conference history. It is also the team's third consecutive outdoor conference title. The women’s team nearly duplicated the feat, but finished second behind Sacramento State with 121 points. The men of Weber State finished second.
“It’s been several years since we’ve been able to have an opportunity to pull off a triple crown. We were looking at the double shot at history with the men and women,” said JW Hardy, Director of Track and Field. “But fell a little short on the women’s side.”
“The fact that our men and women won five titles out of six this year hasn’t quite set in yet, but just thinking about what it means for our program to grab five titles in a year is an amazing feeling.”
This marks the fifth time in school history that the Lumberjacks have won five of the six available cross country, indoor, and outdoor Big Sky titles. The last time was in the 1992-93 school year.
