2009 Concordia Season Thread

Post by Willie »

Figured I'd start this so some of you who are interested can see what's going on with my season this year. Here's a highlight video from game 1 against #8 Willamette. We won 24-17.

I've never seen that many white guys on the field at one time in my life.

We had 13 black guys on our Wartburg team in 2006, and some of the coaches were saying they didn't remmber that many black guys on the team in years.

D3 football is still good football. I'm probably going to at least 2 D3 games.

I have seen the Griz play, but it was against GSU so only half the guys on the field were white.

Thanks Willie. I notice the highlight guy only put the Cobber's good plays on the video which is too bad. It's nice to see it with both so you get a little better feel of what the story was.

Yeah we had a play that should have been on there. We run a triple-option offense most of the time and our RB went in motion to the left, ball was snapped, RB was blocked and our QB pitched it to nobody and Willamette picked it up and ran it back for a TD. It was our 2nd play from scrimmage.

Well I think you said they scored 17 so I would think there might be a few more and maybe some plays on defense where they did stop you guys. It's still cool to see but they could paint a little better picture of what happened in the game.

Willamette only had about 5 white guys. Mostly Hawaiians, Samoans and lighter skinned African Americans from Northern Cali.

Chalk up win #2 for us. We beat NAIA Valley City State 43-28 today. It was 43-14 with 2:00 to go and our 3rd string D gave up 2 quick TD's. I had 4 punts for a 41.2 yard average, box score is all messed up and shows me at 39. My backup came in late in the game and had a 6 yard punt which maybe is the reason they have mine messed up, but a good game for me and us as a whole heading into conference play next week.

Here's a pic of me from today.

We cracked the top-25 today for the first time since my sophomore season. We're sitting at 23 right now. Got #6 Saint John's at home this weekend. Then we play Bethel, a team that made it to the National Semi-Finals 2 years ago on the road, and after our bye week, we travel to #18 St. Thomas. If we can start the conference schedule 3-0 (5-0 overall) I think we can count ourselves being in the top-10 and hopefully bringing a conference title home for the first time since 2004.

Yeah they're in our conference. We have them at home October 24th though. We play @ Bethel in Arden Hills and St Thomas in St. Paul this year though.

Willie, does Concordia play any teams nearby Missoula? Would love to catch a game on a Griz road week.

No. All of our road games are in Minneapolis or St. Paul. We played in Oregon last year, but other than that, Dickinson State in ND is the closest I've played to home.

Well we suffered our first defeat of the season at the hand of #6 ranked Saint John's. We lost 31-19 but had 5 turnovers, 2 of which were fumbles inside the Saint John's 5 yard line. Should have been 27-3 at halftime but we let them have the game. I punted twice for a 46 yard average, bringing my season average up to 40.1 which ranks 15th in all of Division III.

I'll post some pics from the game later.
