How's that? CCU has been the top team and they are 2-5 in the playoffs against teams not named Bethune-Cookman. They seem to be a solid program. Liberty is not a bad team, but by my count they are 1-6 vs the CAA in the past several years. Make a case for the Big South to be thought of in a better light, I will certainly listen.

It's probably the best FCS league in the Southeast over the last 2-3 years. Has a very good record vs SoCon. But the SoCon still has the name brand recognition. It's why a 10 win CSU team got left out of the playoffs. I'm not gonna argue the Big South is in the top 2 or 3 conferences...but it's not far off. It's a very small conference at 7 teams. But it's got 3 top 25 caliber teams which is nearly 50% of the league. PC and GWU are solid the past 2 years and have beaten some of the better SoCon teams.


At least down here...despite a convincing head to head record...the Big South is still seen as a lesser league than the SoCon.

This really is just like FBS fans though. Complaining that SEC teams and name brand ones get ranked higher while teams without the strong history have to scratch and claw their way up.

CSU might be more deserving but part of the Big South's recent success has been based off a down SoCon.

If you look at history as justification for being ranked, There is no way under the sun Portland State would ever be considered a ranked team. However based on their performance on the results on the field, wins over 2 FBS opponents (one of them setting a NCAA record for largest margin of points between an FCS over FBS school, beating teams that at the time were nationally ranked there is no way they could be overlooked.

Yeah that's a fair point. The SoCon isn't what it used to be.

I'm interested to see who the Big South adds to replace Coastal. I'm really hoping Winthrop comes through and starts football. They've been flirting with it for a few years and they're already in. I also wish UNC Asheville or UNC Wilmington would take Charlotte's lead and start a program. It would be easier for 2 teams in conference to start up than to go grab 2 existing ones.

Liberty's signature wins are Montana and...Georgia State? Along with bad losses to SIU, Gardner-Webb and Monmouth.

This year...Liberty is better than Montana. Beat em head to head on the field and both are 4-4. How LU is ranked (well...unranked) below them doesn't make sense. Wouldn't a 10 point loss to Liberty be a "bad loss" for Montana?? It really is just name brand recognition. But I get it....same thing happens in FBS and D2 so I'm not that surprised or upset about it.

Dayton is 8-0 and unranked. Just my opinion...but winning matters and head to head matters.

Since their head to head match-up Liberty has lost 3 games to weak opponents.
Montana has been improving (not that I would rank Montana).

you drop down the teams that cant finish and are therefore .500 in November and you move up the ones under them

BTW, your beef earlier was with teams that aren't in the SoCon. The SoCon is a shell of it's former self. They went from being a 3 bid conference when it was 16, to a 1 or 2 bid conference even with the playoffs expanding. The SoCon isn't your problem, except that you are propping up your record by saying CCU is beating SoCon teams and then turning around and saying the SoCon isn't any good. You are talking in circles Buc. I don't blame you, fans of teams and conferences that feel slighted start looking for anything that will help their cause.
