Charleston Southern lands SEC transfer Darrin Smalls, former 3* #23 safety in nation

Went to watch the Bucs scrimmage today. Wasn't aware of this guy having transferred in. He was ranked by ESPN, Rivals, Scout, etc as one of the top 25 safeties in the nation and a top 15 overall player in SC. Signed with USC and didn't work out.

He joins former 4* defensive end Gerald Turner from USC who came to CSU. Turner was out in 2015 w injury but now joins All American candidate Ellis on the CSU DL.

Good pickup Bucs. Should help replace the DB from last year who is with the Chiefs now.

Too many balls on the ground but the defense played solidly from what I am being told. Any insight Bucs90

Typical early camp scrimmage. Turnovers. A bit sloppy. Rain moved through just before I think so balls may have been wet. Defense was fast and aggressive as usual. QB/WR made some nice throws. Overall I think it was good. Lots to be excited about but also lots of areas to critique and improve.

Our D is good as we know and rhe offense was able throw it, which is an area of concern and they did it against a good defense so that was a plus.

Gerald Turner did have 3 sacks. He's finally 100% healthy for first time since he was playing for USC vs Tennessee in 2014. He showed yesterday why he was rated as high as a 4* recruit. Combined with All American candidate Anthony Ellis we will have an excellent defensive line.

Heard Bobby Ruff is playing excellent. He is the son of Brian Ruff, former AP All American / NFL draft pick at Citadel and many expected him to follow dad's steps but chose CSU instead.

I'm excited to see this defense in action.

I again keep my expectations measured when it comes to FBS transfers...and not just to make Liberty look good either.

I don't take the stars much into account after they land on a college campus, especially after they transfer. If these guys end up as good as advertised, then more power to them. Just because you played in the SEC doesn't guarantee that you are going to be an all-american playing for your new school. Good luck to them, but Id pump the brakes a tad

How do you land a top recruit/transfer with no stadium whatsoever?

Obviously the kids just want to win football games. That's what it's about, right?

I love how a guy from a school with one of the biggest dumps in FCS does the most stadium smack talking.

CSU does have a terrible stadium but I would have to agree. BF has no room to talk. But that won't stop him...he likes projecting.
