Always wanted NDSU to play Georgia Southern. Now that the Bison have played the Eagles 3 times, 3 wins is enough. App St fell off the list when they moved up.

Yawn. After we roll off a few more in a row, you'll once again be doubled up in the all time series.

Depends on who you would call McNeese's FBS in State rival to some extent. If you're talking Louisiana-Lafayette, I'd rather see them beat the Bison. McNeese is already leading the series against Louisiana-Lafayette including being 2-1 against the Cajuns since McNeese opted to go I-AA while the Cajuns stayed I-A. If you're talking LSU...well...you can guess. As much as I'd love to see McNeese play and beat North Dakota State there would be a lot more "juice" for the school if it beat LSU. That'd probably be bigger than App State beating Michigan was.

Uh oh, the pill is fighting back! Maybe the toe getting the beat down tonight!

Who is going to live the longest in this math contest of Titans?

Can't wait to see how this turns out tomorrow. One of these Brickhouses of Brainery will be the new CS Mathuselah and we all know that math can be very dangerous to one's board health on this site.

Beating the Bison would be great because it would mean that Weber has finally gotten to that level of national contender and I think that win would be bigger for the program as a whole.

However beating an instate FBS team like say Utah State would be absolutely beautiful. The Utah media all but ignores the FCS's of the state (Weber/SUU) and over glorifies the FBS schools in the state. (BYU, Utah, USU) A victory over a local instate "rival" and stunning the local media would make my year.

Pretty much the same feelings with the Bearkats. Even though UT is down beating them would be so huge, I may have to pick it over beating the Bison. If it was for the Natty though I would lean to beating the Bison.

NDSU

We have beaten Temple plenty of times. It's always good to beat FBS teams, but it's still Temple. Forget about the fluke of 2016.

It did. It's an interesting question that shows the differences in program goals and identities.

Not sure about that. I think you'd have to ask would you rather win the NC or beat a big I-A to determine that. Otherwise I'd assume the goal of every program is make the playoffs and maybe win an NC.

At the end of the day, beating NDSU in the regular season really doesn't move the needle for your program. Winning an NC does and certainly beating a big I-A does (probably more so than the NC).

As I said earlier in this thread, Montana does not have an in-state rival. *74-37. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

The NC is of course the ultimate goal. That's a no-brainer. This question is more interesting as you can lose or win both and still have that goal intact.

And I didn't ask which win moves the needle more. That's simply the justification for your answer.

I'd still rather beat the Bizon and care more about that outcome.

(Which is itself another question 8-) )

Who Would You Rather Beat?

Post by Thumper 76 »

Not a fair question for a SDSU fans situation, so I'll qualify it. This year I would rather beat TCU if it's in the regular season, but I would rather beat NDSU when we meet them in the playoffs, preferably sometime after the second fucking round. Beating TCU would mean incredible hype going into the inaugural season of the DJD, and NDSU is on the road this year. Attendance is going to be great this year, but honestly knocking off TCU would mean straight sell outs except for maybe the Misery State game.

I don't doubt that. Beating a I-A is a bigger deal to the general population and therefore probably has a bigger impact on the school and athletics. I remember reading how AppSt's applications went up tremendously the year after beating Michigan. To be fair, that was also when they were winning their 3 NC's but that Michigan game got 100x the press that any of the I-AA NC's did.

http://www.wbtv.com/story/26408736/7-ye ... -an-impact

But you might be surprised what effect that game had on the student population.

"You're looking at the Appalachian State student profile being different now." Jackson added.

Student applications rose dramatically from across the country, the freshman GPA went up from 3.68 to 3.87, and average SAT scores of incoming freshmen were up, too.

Danielle Heichen is a student/athlete softball player from Miami, and she says the Michigan game is one reason she ended up in Boone.
Marketing Fluff.
The Over-Lords (Trustees) and Adminicrats want Appalachian to be viewed as a *National* presence, hence, the move from the SoCon to the Sun Belch. The reality is, 90%+ of Appalachian's enrollment (roughly 18K students) is in-state.

I would also submit that the GPA increase cannot be fully attributed (if, at all) to the Michigan win. The fact is, Appalachian has multiple degree paths which lead to near-certain employment after course work -- from public administration to teaching. Even Bidness/Finance majors are highly regarded, and CPA graduates consistently each year out-perform their in-state peers on licensing exam certifications.

Suck-it Dook, Wake and Chappy Hill ... :dunce:
