I would say UR gets a 1st round bye, but with no Lauletta and as beat up as they are now (are down at least a half doz starters plus a # of 2 deep) there might be only 3 teams in the field they could beat next weekend: San Diego, StFU, and the affirmative action pick NC A&T.

NCA&T has Tarik Cohen, the number two rusher in FCS, and the committee matched them up against a team with QB issues and who just gave up 219 yards to one RB on Saturday. Maybe it is the plan to get the MEAC a playoff win in the hopes that other MEAC teams will push to abandon the Celebration bowl.
Rumor has it that A&T threw this game intentionally so they could possibly garner an at-large selection, and give Cohen more of a national stage. He did run for 295 yards against Alcorn in last year's bowl game.

Sent using Tapatalk because 89Hen hates this.
It's a reasonable theory, but Broadway's quotes in this article makes that seem unlikely.
It's looking like it'll be a battle of backup (or lower) QBs in Richmond on Saturday…

Well of course you never want to publicly say that, especially at the expense of your rival.
Bison get the team that beat the team that beat them, and if they win they get the team that beat them. Not going to be easy in any way, shape or form.
tribe-pride over on the JMU board responding to someone who said NC A&T deserved to make it
How did A&T deserve to make it?
Their wins were against Massey Composite (out of 125 FCS teams):
76, 82, 93, 100, 103, 120, 123, D-II (2-8 record), and 113 out of 128 (FBS)
Their losses were to Massey Composite: 36 of 128 FBS and 42 of 125 FCS
Illinois States Massey composite wins were: (out of 125 FCS teams):
5, 24, 45, 63, 116 and 50 out of 128 FBS
Their losses were to:
1, 8, 31, 46, and 49
Can you really say that A&T with that resume deserves an at-large bid? If so, teams might as well schedule the weakest teams they can even in extremely weak conferences (MEAC rated 11th of 13 conferences ahead of only SWAC and Pioneer).
That might be a playoff 1st- a team from the 11th ranked conference, who is 0-17 in the playoffs this century, not good enough to win said conference, with 0 wins against the top 75, getting an at large.

The better comparison would have been Albany. They should have been the last in.

I'm thinking it'll be Chattanooga at Sam Houston State in the second round. If so it'll be interesting. Sam Houston State is the quintessential one dimensional team. They have a really explosive passing game and nothing else. No running game. No defense.
They do protect the ball well. Haven't turned it over much. Reminds me that I was surprised at how badly they beat Central Arkansas. Then I looked at the stats and saw Central Arkansas had 5 turnovers to Sam Houston's 0 and it made more sense. As for Central Arkansas...they had 15 turnovers in their last three games. 6 against SFA then 4 against Nicholls State then 5 against Sam Houston. They need to get that aspect of their game fixed if they want any chance at all to beat Illinois State.
Watched Chattanooga at Alabama until halftime and was really impressed. If it's Chattanooga at Sam Houston I think that's going to be an interesting matchup.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are

Lehigh can beat a paper tiger UNH.
Villanova can won on the road at SDSU.

Bill Right on about Keeler. There is no good reason the selection committee can give as to why they are meeting in the semis instead of the finals. THis is why the expanded playoffs are a joke. they had the 1-AA playoffs in the sweet spot at 16 teams seeded from top to bottom.

I expect getting thumped by A $hitty Delaware team 33-17 put them out.......

Even with 16 teams, the SLC is still ranked below the Patriot, Ivy, and OVC in Sagarin. EWU won the NC from the 5 spot in 2010.

Oh, I still think SHSU will win, but the game of the tournament will be in December instead of January......THe conference was not great but they destroyed their entire schedule by a large margin. THey should be higher.

SHSU's strength of schedule was HORRENDOUS. The Southland sucked this year, and SHSU played a couple of cupcakes OOC, including a Div II. See the above post. Even weaker than StFU out of the NEC. Only stronger than the affirmative action MEAC pick NC A&T & the non scholly Pioneer champ San Diego. You could 11-0 & be the best team in the nation but if you play a pathetic schedule you're not going to going to be seeded above 10-1 teams playing way stronger schedules..SHSU was lucky they weren't even dropped behind the Citadel to the #6 seed. Citadel had a much stronger SOS and was 3-0 vs playoff teams..
The SHSU AD should be fired for OOC scheduling a Div II along with no I-A game.
