SUU Hires DeLane Fitzgerald
The Thunderbirds went a ways out of their geographic footprint to hire Frostburg State (MD) head coach DeLane Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald, a JMU alum, went 62-19 in 8 seasons with the Bobcats. He also went 24-30 at DIII Southern Virginia from 2009-13.

Idaho Hires Jason Eck
Just a couple hours removed from the end of South Dakota State's season, the Vandals officially hired their OC away. Eck was an assistant at SDSU the past 6 years, and he was also the O-Line coach at Montana State during the final Rob Ash season.

Good hire by Idalol...maybe this hire get the "lol" removed from their moniker...
Questionable hire by ISU. They really couldn't do better than a ST coach? That's a hire the Hornets pull in the early 2000's.
SUU's hire is a total head scratcher. Glad they are out of the BSC now.

McNeese State hires Valdosta State coach
McNeese State announced former Valdosta State head coach Gary Goff a couple of days after Goff's Blazers got pummeled by Ferris State in the D-II national championship game. I think Ferris State's head coach may also have applied for the job. I know he did the last time McNeese had a coaching change.
Keith Zembower, a high school coach in Texas who once coached at McNeese and writes a blog that's largely about McNeese athletics, said before the fact that he hoped McNeese would hire Goff rather than somebody like Ferris State's coach (who Zembower believed to be in the running). I dunno. But Zembower thinks the former Valdosta State guy is a better fit for the type of athletes in McNeese's recruiting area and he's also about 10 years younger.

Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Re: 2021-2022 Coaching Change Thread
I think this is an interesting quote coming from Gary Goff, considering that he is coming to McNeese from South Georgia right there by the Florida border:
I can remember, many years ago when McNeese was a national title contender, noting that it could contend for the national title with a roster such that 95% or more of the players came from within 200 miles of the school. But they were doing that before Lamar and Southeastern Louisiana resurrected their programs.
The problem is that there are 5 other Louisiana FCS schools that recruit the same area along with 3 Louisiana FBS programs that really belong in FCS. Also a bunch of other schools. Plenty of high end FCS level talent in the immediate vicinity. But there's competition for it.“The good thing about recruiting in South Louisiana is you don’t have to spend one night in a hotel,” Goff said. “We can recruit within three hours of our campus and have all the athletes we ever need.

ETSU Hires George Quarles
After a search process that included former NFL head coach Jeff Fisher, the Buccaneers have gone with Furman OC George Quarles. Prior to his 5 year stint in Greenville, Quarles won 11 state titles as the head coach at Maryville (TN) High School.

Butler Hires Mike Uremovich
The Bulldogs have gone with Temple OC Mike Uremovich. Uremovich also posted a 33-45 record as head coach at NAIA St. Francis (IL), a stint that included a 10-3 record and a win over Georgia State in 2011.

Re: 2021-2022 Coaching Change Thread
I object to that remark, SD. The best HC candidate available (if he chooses to be available, anyway) is Dallas Cowboys Special Teams Coordinator John Fassel. Of course, I'm biased because he was my favorite teammate at UOP before he transferred to BBQ and I transferred to Sac after we lost the program at UOP.
He does have HC experience before, having been Acting HC for the Rams and HC/AD at D-II New Mexico-Highlands....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

LIU Hires Ron Cooper
The Sharks chose not to retain interim coach Jonathan Gill (made the HC in June) and went with longtime coach Ron Cooper. Cooper was the head coach at Louisville from 1995-97 and Alabama A&M from 1998-01. He's been an FBS assistant at various stops for nearly all of the past 20 years.

Adam Cushing Resigns from EIU
Cushing has left Eastern Illinois to "pursue other professional opportunities." He went a dismal 3-26 in his 3 seasons in Charleston, and his 2021 edition was the only FCS team to lose a non-conference game to the Pioneer League.

EIU Hires Chris Wilkerson
Wilkerson, who went 51-27 in 8 seasons at DIII Chicago, was hired to be the Panthers' next head coach. He's an EIU alum, a former EIU coach (1995-01), and also the Associate HC at Dartmouth from 2005-12.
