I haven't seen anything to disprove it other than the Western teams are better than the Eastern teams. Your judgement is skewed because there a no great teams in the east.
Only 1 eastern team made the final 8 and thats because they played another eastern team to get there. The UAC is better than any east coast conference. The Ivys will be the class of the East in the coming years.
watched some of a JMU at Richmond game from circa 2008, the old stadium downtown
those teams were so good it was refreshing despite being so long ago and the level of play was so much better than what the CAA is today
So yea, the CAA and the Southern were much better a few decades ago, but the question I have is has the West improved the level of the FCS play enough to make Gils argument. Im not really convinced either way right now

Other schools are stepping up. It's not just NDSU and everyone else. Montana St, SDSU and South Dakota are all at that level now. UCD is rising and soon the Ivys will be in the playoffs. South Dakota may win it next year.
