I seriously doubt back up lineman are being paid that. But if correct, so what? They too are replaceable by kids who hope to reach that level.Caribbean Hen wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2026 4:51 amWell, just one example
The big boys are paying 1 million bucks for depth on the OL

You should always have doubts and you’re probably right. Most of them are not making 1 million bucks but I heard a few OL did.kalm wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2026 7:56 amI seriously doubt back up lineman are being paid that. But if correct, so what? One of the things I love or loved about FCS was very talented players as they looked even more talented playing in FCS… it just jumped out.
When they move up to FBS there talent is kind of blended in.
Skattebo was one recent noticeable exception
I just think it’s going to be tough for FCS to grow any type of fan base under the current system of minor league football meaning if you have a good player, you’re worrying about him being gone next year.
The old diehard FCS fans will be there until the day they die, but that is the problem…. Who will take their place?

That’s a legitimate concern. Part of the fun was watching a Kidd like Kupp move up from practice squad and continue to develop over 4 years.Caribbean Hen wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2026 8:24 amYou should always have doubts and you’re probably right. I remember Kupp at E Washington
I thought he was a super talent, but admittedly, I didn’t know if he would be an NFL talent. I’ve been wrong before about FCS players that I thought would make it in the NFL.
Ezzard was one of them, he was spectacular at Sammy
Your WR Kauffman from 2010 was one I thought would catch on

You didn’t think a 6’2 WR that won the Jerry Rice award, Walter Payton Award, won back to back Big Sky Offensive POY awards and was a 4x First-team FCS All-American would be an NFL talent?Caribbean Hen wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2026 8:33 am I remember Kupp at Eastern Washington

Watching Kupp against NDSU, I thought he would be a good NFL player. He lined up at several positions during the game and I just hoped NDSU could stop him whenever EWU ran a play. Watson was hard to stop, and Bryce Lance could be the next one. David Johnson was another from UNI.Caribbean Hen wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2026 4:33 amI knew he was super talented. Re: IS FCS FOOTBALL DYING?
He was also great in 2010 despite an injury knocking him out of some games. Nova squeezed in as an at-large, he returns, and they make it to the semi’s knocking off App State along the way. We had a safety in Matt Johnson who could take an entire side of the field away. He was assigned Sczur in that game and did the same eventually knocking him out of the game.Caribbean Hen wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2026 4:08 amWell, maybe not, but he gifted Villanova a national championship with his skills,,,, he was spectacular in 2009

Re: IS FCS FOOTBALL DYING?
No hints necessary
We already knew that by the way you framed the question
Clearly, one of the biggest breaks of all time was awarded to eastern Washington on that fourth down play because they were stopped 1 foot short of the first down …. But then the refs got involved….. it was a clown show
