ODU to host Cal-Poly next year

Post by ODUsmitty »

Easy schedule this year has been kind to the Monarchs.

Next year, we host current Top 25's WM and now Cal-Poly. Then we descend into the madness known as the CAA South in 2011.

Just saw that too. Awesome!!! How the hell did we get a California team to play at ODU? Complete opposite of what I thought we'd get...

The downside is that we get to go there in 2011, when we are in the first year of WM/JMU/VU/UD/UR......

That year will be BRUTAL.........

f'in Old Dominion.

You fans better not take for granted how hard it is to get teams to travel to you. There are top 10 teams in the country that can't get OOC teams to travel to them (New Hampshire).

And as long as ODU doesn't beat any top 10 teams (which they won't for several years to come) they shouldn't have much trouble getting OOC teams to travel....at least the OOC team can get a win out of it.

Awesome. So long as it doesn't conflict with a Hens home date, I'm heading down to see me some Stangs-Monarchs. :thumb:

Agreed JBBP! Not to be unrealistic, but hopefully ODU will surprise everyone against Cal Poly and pull out a W...I can dream, can't I?

Which would make us eerily similar to your JMU squad this year, right?

4 playoff appearances and 1 national championship in the past 5 years? Nah, I wouldn't say that much about ODU. Close though :thumb:

EDIT: Considering JMU won't make the playoffs this year, it would be 4 playoff appearances in the past 6 years. Still not on par with ODU's playoff appearances though. :thumb:

Ah yes. East meeting West. Hopefully we'll kickoff at Noon when their inner clock says it's time for a double latte. Then we'll show them which time zone rules.

You know, we could be in the Top 30 and contending for a playoff spot earlier than you (and me) thought. Our talented freshmen skill players already have 7 games of experience. They will get stronger and smarter moving forward.

Recruiting hotbed vs. frost heaves
20,000 fans for home games vs 8,000
Newly renovated stadium vs metal bleachers....

Shouldn't really be surprising.

In Wilder's interview with our local reporter/blogger, he said ODU won't return the trip to Cal Poly.

Other than drawing 20,000 per game, having an awesome stadium, unbridled administration support, and tons of sponsorship $$$........I have no idea?????

Poly is a different animal and ODU will have a tough time hanging with them. yes, it is a year in advance but I stick by it. Great job getting the game with them though. :thumb:

This game is going to be interesting. On paper this will probably be a blow out but the team will be older, more experienced, bigger, stronger, and faster not by much but still they can only get better from this year since most of our guys are freshman and sophomores. It wouldn't surprise me if ODU suprises fans with a close game. Like another poster said, hopefully this game is at noon because their interal clocks will be all out of whack...knowing ODU and how they've scheduled this year it will probably be at 6 as usual. It's a lot easier going from east to west then it is west to east. Plus Foreman will be packed and will be loud. Not sure how much of a factor it will be but you never know. FYI, I'm not saying we will win or lose.

Also, are there any Cal Poly fans on here? Just want to get their perspective.

FWIW, I just read ODU is paying Cal Poly $53,000 to come to Norfolk.
