Well We Feel pretty Good About Eastern Aswell. I think You guys Think SFA Is A Pushover. I mean yes you guys played cal, And We Played SMU. But Cal beat You Guys By 50 points, SMU Beat us By A Touchdown, And They Are One Of The Top Teams In C-USA. We Could Of Easily Won Dat Game. So Its Kinda Of 50/50. Have Eastern beaten A Ranked team This year? I Know They Lost To Weber State And Montana! Both Were Ranked, I Know NAU And MSU Gave You Guys Hell And They Were Not Top Teams. Idk but i think you guys are feeling to good about Eastern!lol, Good Luck Though
Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:The closer I look at SFA, the better I feel about this matchup. Like previously stated, their offensive numbers are a bit inflated with the bottom of the bucket teams they've played (GPI:Northwestern State - 107, Nicholls State - 89, WIU - 84, Texas College - NAIA), same with their defensive rankings... they haven't really played anyone other than SMU(L 23-31), McNeese (W 16-13), and Texas State (L 7-28).

Unlike NAU, SFA is a mostly passing team with a very subpar running game. Their main RB Vincent Pervis averages only 12cpg and 68ypg, and the team only 137ypg on the ground, vs. 347ypg through the air. That makes them easier to defend than a team like NAU who has a top 10 RB in Alex Henderson, and top 10 QB in Michael Herrick (both ranked 6th nationally in FCS at their positions).

As for our defense... as bad as the NAU game was, it wasn't THAT bad. Flagstaff is at nearly 7,000 ft. in elevation... making it harder to breathe when you're running all over the field for 36 minutes (NAU ToP). After that kind of workout, going down to Nacogdoches, TX (302 ft) should be easy. Especially when we can focus more on the pass. In the end, our D got the job done when it counted on that final NAU drive. After a week of rest, I think they'll be fine.

I'm looking forward to this game. I don't know much about EWU but I just hope for a good game. Just wanted to say good luck to EWU and their fans. As far as a prediction...i think it will either be a shootout or a close game that comes down to a field goal. 49-42 or a 20-17 game.

I do know SFA broadcasted their games over the internet throughout the season and I'm pretty sure they are doing it for this game as well. You might be able to pick it up on channelsurfing.net or through the sfajacks.com website for those who cannot make it down.

For those EWU fans coming down have a safe trip and check out some of the local eats. butcher boys has good hamburgers/bbq...auntie pastas for italian...and clear springs for seafood...the hotel ferdonia also has good food. I know when I visit other places I like to try some of the local places instead of the usual mcdonalds, chilis, friday's etc....

sfajack, add the 20-17 score up and you'll get what probably will be your final score(37). Trick is EWU should score 38. You guys will score points, to be sure, ? is will it be enough(could very well be). Hope it's a game to remember!

Unlike the other posters, I don't know who will win. However, I do find it interesting that EWU has only one win against a team with a winning record- Montana State.

And our only losses in FCS come to fellow playoff teams, who are ranked 12th and 3rd in the GPI, 15th and 3rd in the TSN poll.

Don't put too much stock into the Cal game. In the second half, after the game was already decided, our 2nd and 3rd's got a lot of playing time while Cal left their starters in and continued to run the score up on us.

Eagles vs. Lumberjacks in back to back weeks. What are the odds? Well, now that I think about it, last year the Griz played the Bobcats in two straight weeks (MSU in the regular season finale and then Texas St. in the playoffs).

In any case, I'm guessing that this time out the Eags won't give up 700+ yards of offense like they did against NAU. I'm expecting a UM-EWU rematch in Wa-Griz next weekend, so I've got EWU 38-24.

And by the way, the Eags can feel free to give up 700+ yards of offense again next week if that rematch does occur :thumb: .

I'm getting tired of everyone assuming that we don't have any receivers since we lost Boyce. Would they be better with Boyce? Yes, of couse. But what people don't realize is that Nichols numbers have actually gone up since Boyce went down - and although you can't replace a Boyce, we have an excellent TE in Overbay, a speed receiver in Davis, and two very promising Freshman receivers in Edwards and Kauffman (6'3 and 6'5 respectively. Freshman receiver Edwards had 3 td's in the NAU game, TE Overbay had 3 in the SUU game. And don't forget RB Jones has 500 yards and 4 TD's receiving this year. Our receiving corp is damn near as good without Boyce as it was with him. :twocents:

Jones counts as a RB, not a receiver. His receiving was factored into the running back comparison, not the WRs/TEs comparison.

With Boyce removed, only Davis & Overbay have meaningful receiving numbers. The Eagles may have promising freshmen, but that's not really enough to overcome SFA's corps of weapons. SFA has a good set of receivers too, maybe even as good as EWU's with Boyce healthy. Nichols's stats are a little better since Boyce got hurt, but they haven't exactly played a tough schedule over that span; only MSU has a winning record among those four opponents and the other three (NAU, PSU, SUU) have lousy defenses.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion. The last 4 or 5 games of the year all I heard from most Montana fans was "without Boyce, Eastern won't be able to do this and that.....blah, blah, blah." Well, we won out, basically through big offense. You may not feel our young receivers are comparable to SFA's; I disagree. Nichols went from having a big-time receiver he could go to at-will, to having to spread the ball around more. But go ahead and discount us.

I'm not "most Montana fans"; I never said that about Boyce, Eastern, etc., at any point. I also expected EWU to win out given their schedule. You act like simply picking your team to lose or saying their receivers aren't quite as good as their opponents is some kind of biased, unfair slight or something. SFA is a good, high-octane team & it'll be very tough for EWU to win down there.

EWU may have a slight edge on offense, but SFA's defense is definitely better. That should be the difference here.

sfa will have a live video feed of the game that you can watch. just go to sfajacks.com and then click on the join sfa athletics for a live chat and then click on live video feed and it should direct you to the place to watch it. i just checked this morning and it looks like it will be free. as far as if tv stations can pick it up that i don't know so this may be your best bet to watch the game.
