Dannen wows search committee, staff

CEDAR FALLS --- Nobody came more highly recommended than Troy Dannen.

In the end, nobody made a more positive impression on the 12 members of the search committee who spent more than a month helping the University of Northern Iowa find its new athletic director.

That process came to a conclusion Thursday when UNI announced Dannen, the executive director of the Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union, had signed a four-year contract to become the leader of the Panther athletic department.

By all accounts, he was the majority choice among the search committee, which passed along three names to UNI vice president for administration and finance Tom Schellhardt for final consideration. The other two --- Cincinnati's Michael Waddell and Northern Illinois' Glen Krupica --- had extensive experience in college athletics administration.

Has this guy had any experience in college athletics? It seems like it would be rather unprecedented to hire someone who doesn't have much experience in the NCAA.

I've known Mike Waddell for quite a while. He has a track record of success everywhere he has been. Many thanks to your school for not selecting him as I would love to see him replace Charlie Cobb at ASU in a year or two.
