2010 recruiting thread

Post by slycat »

How is your schools recruiting heating up? Any early commits. I know most guys won't commit for a few more weeks but its still interesting to see who your school is pursuing.

So far Texas State has zero commits but has some very interesting pursuits. Heres a list of guys that are "interested".

W&M has three commits so far.

Jordan King- 5'10" 185 athlete from Mountain View H.S. in Virginia. QB who will probably be a WR.

Alex Goodman- 6' 215 LB from Brooke Point H.S. in Virginia. All Northwest Region...also played WR with 24 catches for 423 yards.

Mike Paulus- 6'5" 220 QB transferring from UNC. Enrolling in January.

Tribe is also in the hunt for 6' 205 RB Keith McBride from Memphis University School in Tennessee. McBride currently has ten offers, and appears focused on W&M, Army, Navy, Kansas and Memphis.
Go Tribe!!!

Add yet another recruit to NDSU, this is a major addition...

Zach Vraa, WR, from Rosemount MN...

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiti ... son%3d2010

Vraa choose NDSU over offers from Air Force and UND. Vraa was also named Minnesota's Mr. Football.

Vraa is NDSU's 22nd verbal.

Robert Morris apparently got a Hofstra and Northeastern player.

Jordan Batts from NE
http://gonu.com/football/roster/090826- ... atts.shtml

Brad Hilovsky from Hofstra
http://www.gohofstra.com/ViewArticle.db ... EASON=2009

Batts will be a huge addition to RMU, Hilovsky should help out a lot as well. The WR's were looking pretty thin until this, and word is that there might be one other WR transfer on campus now also.

RMU is going to be a solid team next year. If you guys play like you did the last 5 games of 2009 you'll be right up there for the NEC AQ. :thumb:

I just heard that Towson has a juco transfer QB enrolling today.

Chris Hart 6'3" 218 3 star(rivals)
2 years left.

This is good news because now Athens(true freshman can redshirt and rest his knee) and still develop when Hart is a senior and then have two years left after that. And Chroninger(the alternating QB in 09) can move over to saftey, where he would have started last season(as a true freshman)

This also explains why Meiko Locksley uncommited and (early)enrolled at Youngstown State this week. Locksleys dad is the HC at New Mexico, and a former teammate of our HC Rob Ambrose(and me)
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

I sure hope so. RMU has been great on D the last couple years, but our O has not been able to get it done. Coach Walton has been changing things around and actually running a shotgun set, which was overdue and has helped. Will be interesting to see who is the QB next year. The true freshman that started some last year, or the other RS freshman.

Just hope they can put everything together.

I believe that we now have found a player to help answer who will replace Cade Cooper as our starting QB this year along with a few other players we have signed, so far its looking good for SUU:

BRAD SORENSON, QB, SO.: Sorensen, a 6-foot-4, 224-pound sophomore from Grand Terrace, Calif., spent one season at San Bernardino Valley College prior to transferring to BYU. At SBVC Sorensen earned first-team all-conference honors after passing for over 2,300 yards and 20 touchdowns as a true freshman. He was also a two-time first-team all-league and all-county selection at Colton (Calif.) High School, where he passed for 2,200 yards and 25 TDs as a senior when he completed 75 percent of his passes.

Here are some highlights of him playing at SBVC in 2006, this is a big kid and definetly fits into our spread offense, even if he doesnt have much scrambling ability:

DEVIN TAVANA, CENTER, SO.: Tavana, a 6-3, 330-pound center from Kalaheo, Hawai'i, earned first-team NCJAA All-American honors as well as first-team all-Western States Football League recognition last season. Along the way Tavana helped the Badgers to a 10-2 record and a Top of the Mountains Bowl win last season. Tavana also earned first-team all-WSFL recognition his junior season when he helped the Badgers to a perfect 11-0 regular season mark.

BRANDON BEDDES, OL, SO.: A 6-4, 300-pound tackle from American Fork, Utah (American Fork HS), was a two year teammate of Tavana who also had a big hand in the Badgers' success the last two seasons.

JUSTIN BROWN, WR, SO.: Brown is a 6-3, 205-pounder from Ogden, Utah, who prepped at Layton Hills Christian High School. Last year as a true freshman he appeared in six games, catching 21 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns. He also excelled on special teams, returning one kickoff for a touchdown.

So far four great signings from JC transfers, i especially am a fan of the big linemen as we are starting to finallly be as big as the other guys in the trenches. Also ive seen this WR play in highschool and let me tell you he is an amazing edition to what i consider one of the best WR cores in the nation :thumb:. Look forward to more sgnings as Ed Lambs recruiting still brings results (was the recruiting coach for San Diego, no wonder they were so good a few years back :twocents:)

*Most of the below info was on the 2010 Towson Schedule thread hijack, which I have deleted.

JMU just landed a 3 star from VA Beach, right in ODU's back yard, Dejor Simmons, who had 4 I-A offers: UConn, Duke, Marshall and Toledo :
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/r ... mons-92737
Rivals has him rated as the #16 all purpose back in the nation:
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/qu ... =2010&qs=1
Again, 3 star, 4.39 40
Scouts has him as a 2 star, 4.43 40, with the same 4 I-A offers except for WVU instead of Duke:
http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p= ... id=4254410
rated #133 running back (didn't see an all purpose back ranking like Scouts has). Yet still they have him as the 3rd highest I-AA commit at RB yet behind the #43 who committed to UNI and the #123 who committed to Weber State.
http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p= ... 11&yr=2010
Simmons suffered an ankle injury, missing over half this past season, but still managed to rush for 600 yards in 4 games. His coach stated:
“It’s been about the same for him,” Green Run head coach Shawn Wilson said. “West Virginia and East Carolina had offers out, but he didn’t commit soon enough and they fell through...."
http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=r ... &type=lgns

Already had a commit from Anthony Rose (who's 2 older brothers play for JMU), another 3 star who had offers from Maryland, Marshall, and Ohio among others:
http://rivals.yahoo.com/virginiapreps/f ... Rose-88963

Notice in the Rivals Top 30 for VA, JMU is the only I-AA to get commits from any (Rose at #23 and Simmons at #27):

Mickey has been recruiting in Texas!
JMU Gets Texas QB
http://www.dnronline.com/sports_details ... HID=3&sub=

Rivals rated 172 Pro Style QBs as 2 stars and above, and this kid isn't on ranked, so who knows how good he is. He did play for Midland Lee, a notable West Texas HS:

"Midland Lee won three consecutive 5A state football championships, the first school to ever accomplish that feat (Southlake Carroll High School has since won three consecutive 5A titles, in 2004-2006). The 1999 season marked an undefeated national championship awarded by the Associated Press. In the span of those three years Midland Lee went 43-3. The Rebels were led by tailback Cedric Benson...

Notable alumni
* Laura Bush, former First Lady[2] - Graduated in 1964[3]
* General Tommy Franks, retired General in the United States Army and former Commander of the U.S. Central Command
* Tommy Lee Jones, actor and director
* Cedric Benson, Cincinnati Bengals running back[1]
* Eric Winston, Houston Texans offensive tackle
* Ryan Tucker, Cleveland Browns offensive tackle
* Randy Velarde, former MLB player.
* Allen Wilson, Texas state championship-winning high school football coach"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_E._ ... ,_Texas%29

The Daily News article, which you have to have a subscription too, cuts off right when it starts to talk about a 2nd TX QB who has visited JMU:
