Red turf at EWU?

Since no one has mentioned it before I'll mention it now: The NCAA made a rule that all new fields must be green (Boise is the exception because they were already Blue)

I seem to recall hearing that is a myth. I thought when the EWU idea first came up someone posted the NCAA rules which don't directly forbid the odd turf colors (I think it was in a thread in the now extinct site.) Since New Havens turf and EWU being given permission I think the NCAA only really regulates the color thing to make sure it isn't too extreme, such as multi colors, or even the all black field for safety reasons.

I'm not exactly a purist (I actually like that my team plays on field turf) but I have a problem with it because it's so gimmicky and stupid and is purposely meant to be a distraction. If you want a distraction, put your student section closer to the field. If Eastern Washington does this.. I'm just glad that I won't have to see it.

I would think it would get much tougher to get a decent OOC game. I can't see a team like Cal Poly, UNI, etc... going to play on a field like that.

Come on now, they ain't getting those kinds of games anyway but I don't think that the field is gonna be the deciding factor.

It's a gimmick job and the gimmick will wear off quickly. If it doesn't then it's gonna become cool.

They did and they brought it back 2 years ago. Pete Rossomundo is the head coach. He was the Oline coach at Albany when I was there and then the OC for a few years before going to NH. We were sad to see him go as a lot of Albany fans thought he would take over for Coach Ford when he retired (if ever).

Here's the thing...the NCAA doesn't have to approve it though. There is NO rule about color turf. The only reason they went to the NCAA was so they didn't look like a bunch of tools for just installing it.

And it's THEIR school, their stadium, their field. Who gives a shit what they do. If it's not your school why should you care either?

They won't screw it up. If they choose to do it, which I think they will, then that's their choice. Nothing's going to change because of their field color. If anything, I think it'll draw more attention to them.

I've definitely seen some green fields fade a little. It may not be as noticible with green as it would be red. I don't really think the red would fade before the field wore out, but it will be horrendous from the start IMO.

I'm curious as to when they're going to start. The field was put in over a natural spring (most all of cheney was built over marsh/swamp land), so there will be a lot more prep work involved for a proper drainage system and whatnot. It'd be a bitch to do most of the work in the heat of summer, but that might be their only option with track and field shit going in the spring.

I wouldn't think there'd be much concern for the field color fading. How many field turfs are out there that have red end zones (or any color for that matter)? Montana's maroon end zones haven't faded noticeably, although the current turf is fairly new and probably gets a lot of shade because of Mt. Sentinel and the way the field is sunk down. Regardless, the point is that colored end zones are everywhere and there doesn't seem to be any fading issues.

As for the idea itself, yeah, it'll draw attention for sure. And guess who the Eagles would play in the first game on the red turf? More attention for Montana is never a bad thing .
