1. Devlin, UD - In a close race he wins simply because he has the biggest upside and more returning OL.
2. Whitney, NOVA - Very, very good and 09' post season made him better but losing 2 starting OL and 1 backup.
3. Thorp, JMU - Based solely on the game he had @ UD. If he plays like that in '10 JMU will be heard from.
I like Paulus (size), Smith (toughness) and Havens (size and a lot of upside) too.
Unsure about Corp. Why did he drop so far in the depth chart? Feel there is something we don't know yet.

For Devlin's sake he better hope UD finds some new OTs. If UD still has that underweight 260-270 lb right tackle, I think he was #74, that has gotten abused by Sidbury, Belcher, Miller, Moats, Tracy, Kukuka, etc the last 2 seasons Devlin will be lucky to last the whole season. And FWIW the left tackle wasn't that much better.jd of de wrote:1. Devlin, UD - In a close race he wins simply because he has the biggest upside and more returning OL.

A truer statement could not have been made. I think most UD fans have been scratching our heads as to Uhll (#74) still starts. Unfortunetly I have a feeling that both Tackles from last season will start. We have some big bodies coming up but they red shirted last year and who knows if they will be ready. KC's choice of OT's could be his undoing.BDKJMU wrote:For Devlin's sake he better hope UD finds some new OTs. If Baker comes back, our OT's will have a lot of help. Baker will eat DEs and LBs for lunch before he goes out and catches a pass in the flat and then runs over the DBs.HenZoneNation wrote:A truer statement could not have been made. And our OTs should be putting on another 10-15lbs of weight in the off season. Add in Davis and the Fr-rs, and we should be OK.
Of all the hopes I have, it is that JB will be back healthy.

OL was a transition year last year; we were really young. This seasons soph. class will determine how good or weak the unit is. Spring will show what Keeler is thinking size wise. Up to 5-300+ lbs'rs on roster (two are RT's).BDKJMU wrote:For Devlin's sake he better hope UD finds some new OTs. I can see your reasong for being happy about the graduation of the above mentioned sack artist, but UD gave up 27 sacks in 09.GannonFan wrote:Well, one of the things in his favor coming into this year is that most of those guys have graduated.BDKJMU wrote:

8 to JMU,
5 to W&M,
3 to Nova,
UR/DSU/HU/Navy all had 2 each.
WCU/MAINE/UMASS had 1 each.
Only TU did not register a sack.
Of JMU's 8, Moats only had 2.5. Williams (LB - R.Fr) had 1.5, Jackson (S-Fr) had 2, Bryant & Brown had 1 each.
Of W&M's 5, Tracy only had 2. Pradhanang (DT-Rs.So) had 1, and 4 others had half a sack.
Of Nova's 3, Kukucka had half a sack with Thomas (LB-Jr), Demspey (S-Jr) had 1, and our graduating NG Matusz had 1.
There will be a ton of returning bodies, plus bodies in waiting, in the CAA looking to put the hurt on any and all UD QB's. Good luck with that OL.

Re: Rank the CAA QB's
Seriously, you spent all that time looking up those numbers? And you're going to honestly take the approach that the absence of guys like Moats and Tracy and Daniels and everyone won't have much of an impact because they didn't personally get the sacks? So I'm to assume that Moats and Daniels had little to nothing to do with JMU's 8 sacks because they didn't tally most of them? That's just laughable - did you even see the game? If you really believe that JMU and W&M will have equal or better pass rushes in the absence of the people they are graduating then we should just stop right here because you're probably the only person, fans of those teams included, who believes that.jstclmet wrote:I can see your reasong for being happy about the graduation of the above mentioned sack artist, but UD gave up 27 sacks in 09.GannonFan wrote:

(btw, Richmond's sack total from '08 to '09 against UD was cut in half in the absence of Sidbury in '09, even though Sidbury alone only accounted for 1 sack in '08. Funny, I didn't think from your argument that losing a great player would have a big impact).

Re: Rank the CAA QB's
It's called "Adjustments". When UR lost Sidbury, they adjusted their defensive schemes. No longer dependent on their DL for sacks, their LB's/DB's played more of a "bend but don't break" model. Sacks in 09 were not as high as 08, but they didn't need to be. UR without Sidbury, UD with Devlin, yet UD was only able to score 1 more point in 09 (15) vs the 14 pts scored in 08 with a less than average QB at the helm.GannonFan wrote: Seriously, you spent all that time looking up those numbers? As for the JMU/W&M argument, I'm sure Moats & Tracy were doubled or chipped when possible. But who do you double/chip now???? On the road against UR/JMU/W&M with your OL. Like I said before, good luck with that

Re: Rank the CAA QB's
Gee, after all that searching of UD boxscores I'm shocked you went with that argument. UD's offense actually scored zero points against Richmond in '08 - all 14 points came via the defense with a fumble return and an INT return for touchdowns. UD's offense scored 13 points against Richmond in '09, and of course would've been 16 had the chippy FG not been blocked at the end of the game. Considering that UD had 53 yards of total offense and 3 first downs, total, in the game in '08, and that they improved on both of those numbers by 5x in 2009, I'd say that yes, the absence of Sidbury, and others, was substantial.jstclmet wrote:It's called "Adjustments". Uh, that's the point - you don't necessarily need to chip or double someone as much now since guys like Moats and Tracy aren't there. Obviously you'll still chip or double someone, but it's at the choice of the offense more so than the defense dictating the action. I like UD's chances at all 3 of those venues this year considering the losses all 3 of those teams have, especially on the defensive lines. And besides, you had UD winning 2, max 3 games last year. We're probably a playoff team if you think we'll win at least 5 this year.jstclmet wrote: As for the JMU/W&M argument, I'm sure Moats & Tracy were doubled or chipped when possible. Re: Rank the CAA QB's
But isn't #74 a rJr? OL don't typically put on 10-15 lbs between their 4th and 5th yr. They normally put on weight between their 1st and 2nd yr, their 2nd and 3rd, and their 3rd and 4th. If a guy is undersized for his position as a 4th yr junior, he's probably going to be undersized as a 5th yr senior. That is unless he starts juiceing for the 1st time.Cluck U wrote:If Baker comes back, our OT's will have a lot of help.
