Worst Performance: Sacramento St. 27, (NAIA) Southern Oregon 16 - One week after a near upset of Colorado State, the Hornets gain 535 yards on an NAIA team but somehow only win by 11.
Most Surprising Result: Montana St. 23, (FBS) Minnesota 35 - After the debacle in Manhattan last week & Minnesota's blowout road win over Bowling Green, I was surprised to see the Bobcats actually outgain the Gophers.

Best Performance: Northwestern St. 31, Grambling 19 - Despite giving up a defensive touchdown, the Demons knock off one of the SWAC favorites.
Worst Performance: The Weather - Thanks to Hurricane Ike, only 3 Southland teams played this weekend. Nicholls State still has yet to play at all.
Most Surprising Result: Northwestern St. 31, Grambling 19 - Is there a running back controversy in Natchitoches? First Team All-Southland pick Byron Lawrence was held to 0 yards on 6 carries against the Tigers & is only third on the team with 60 yards so far this season.
Best Performance: (#13) South Dakota St. 24, (#15) Western Illinois 22 - They nearly blew a 24-0 halftime lead, but the Jackrabbits move to 2-0 in their new conference.
Worst Performance: Indiana St. 3, (#20) Eastern Illinois 38 - If not for the Sycamores, would the Gateway/MVC ever lose to the Ohio Valley?
Most Surprising Result: (#2) North Dakota St. 13, (FBS) Wyoming 16 - RB Tyler Roehl's injury & QB Nick Mertens's 3 interceptions cost the Bison a winnable FBS game.

Most Surprising Result: Eastern Kentucky 16, Morehead St. 8 - The Colonels further prove this is a rebuilding year by struggling against an unremarkable PFL team.
I understand the points you make about the Sac-SOU game, and I bemoaned them myself on SacBuzz, but how does that get your nod for "worst" performance when PSU actually lost to the Manure Pile?
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Because UC Davis is way better than Southern Oregon & struggling with an NAIA team looks pretty bad. Southern Oregon also lost to Humboldt, a team you guys stomped.

Best Performance: Lafayette 24, Georgetown 6 - RB Tyrell Coon ends up 4 yards short of giving the Leopards two 100 yard rushers in the Patriot League opener.
Worst Performance: Fordham 20, Dayton 23 - Major special teams issues were the culprit here: the Rams gave up a blocked punt TD and also had a PAT blocked & returned for two.
Most Surprising Result: Fordham 20, Dayton 23 - Even with the Flyers a bit depleted compared to last season, the Rams still couldn't get revenge for their 2007 homecoming loss.

Worst Performance: Hofstra 16, Albany 22 (OT) - QB Cory Christopher did an admirable job replacing the injured Bryan Savage, but lousy special teams cost someone a game yet again: the Pride missed 3 FGs & had a PAT blocked.
Most Surprising Result: Maine 28, Stony Brook 13 - The Black Bears still didn't get a whole lot of yards, but QB Adam Farkes did throw a career high 4 TD passes in the first half.

Worst Performance: (#17) Georgia Southern 34, Northeastern 27 (OT) - QB Antonio Henton had a memorable game, accounting for 5 total TDs, but the Eagles still haven't proven themselves worthy of their high ranking.

Good points. I was just wondering because of the following two ideas:
1. A win is a win, and a loss is a loss.
2. Sac wasn't projected by most to do very much, while at least some thought PSU would be at least middle of the pack.

I, for one, figured Sac to finish higher than PSU in the Sky this year.

Worst Performance: Southern Utah 10, (#5) Montana 46 - If the Thunderbirds are turning things around, they didn't show it here. They lost much worse to the current Griz than they did to last year's more veteran outfit.
Most Surprising Result: (#14) Cal Poly @ (#8) McNeese St.; CANCELLED - Hurricane Ike potentially blows a hole in the Mustangs' playoff hopes as they scramble to find a replacement DI game.

Worst Performance: MIssissippi Valley St. 7, Southern 49 - On 50 pass attempts, Delta Devil QB Ryan Burciaga only managed to get 18 completions for 168 yards.

Worst Performance: Campbell 0, Jacksonville 52 - I know the Camels are just starting out, but getting embarrassed by the Dolphins still isn't a good sign for the rest of conference play.
Most Surprising Result: Dayton 23, Fordham 20 - Given what the Rams returned, what the Flyers lost, & the revenge factor, it's pretty unexpected to see Dayton win this rematch.
Best Performance: Albany 22, Hofstra 16 (OT) - RB Dave McCarty runs for 178 yards & a TD as the Great Danes get one of the two playoff conference wins they need on the path to auto-bid status.
Worst Performance: St. Francis (PA) 22, Marist 30 - A blocked XP return by Marist late in the third quarter began the collapse as the Red Flash blew a 22-7 lead.

Best Performance: Marist 30, St. Francis (PA) 22 - Red Fox RB Obozua Ehikioya runs for 158 yards and 2 fourth quarter TDs to punctuate a comeback win.
Worst Performance: North Carolina Central 7, Morgan St. 49 - Getting blown out by James Madison is understandable. Morgan State…? Not so much.
Most Surprising Result: Savannah St. 16, Winston-Salem St. 13 - Tigers end a 29 game losing streak to FCS competition and get just their third I-AA/FCS win since moving up in 2000.
