Sac was not that strong...banked on RB Hilliard who was very effective with traps & between tackle short yardage, and new QB White tossed about half dozen long balls that landed on target to shift field positions and momentum. Look for them to blitz on 3rd and long except for redzone...became their trademark (until late in the 4th when they simply controlled the clock). Kudos to the LB's for keeping McClintock in check most of the day, and doing a good job covering the R&G short routes/shovels.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Sac State beats Portland St., 41-31
PSU still making mistakes, but not as many as last two games. Howland did pretty well at QB, got sacked a few times...not unexpected considering Slac's tendency to blitz. Only 5-6 over/underthrows, and even got out of the pocket and made some short runs. Most of PSU's receivers contributed...Woods, D'Amborsio, Coleman, Fry, McClintock, T.Ford...all had major catches today...great to see them all get the chance to make big plays . DL still needs more strength, and the backs gave up some significant conversions due to broken coverage...zone scheme still needs work. Play calling was solid, and included a few surprises on O (the 4th down faked punt was the best executed I've seen in a while...very nice.), however, the scheme/pattern is very predictable. Overall, PSU progressing, just not enough today.
Officiating was atrocious, giving Sac some key freebies...but for the officiating, this game could have been different.
