Rutgers transfer to play @ Albany

Post by Ruler »

Rob Cervini, who had to sit out last year after transferring from Rutgers, worked at free safety and as a holder on the field goal/PAT special teams unit.

Welcome Ruler!

Cervini at Albany is a somewhat odd occurance. ESPN originally had him transferring from Rutgers to URI along with 3 other Rutgers guys when Rizzi took over.

Cervini was a really good HS player for St. Joe's Montvale in NJ. He'll be a good addition to the Danes defense that needs to replace a lot of seniors.

We have a kid that could be a legitimate Payton candidate come 2011. Drew Smith. He has some amazing raw talent and at 6'2, 220lbs has the speed and frame to back it up. Not to mention 3 years of eligiblity.

The kid is the best player on the field at a number of positions (QB, RB, WR). He may start the year at QB for us this year if Dillon Romain (or another RB) can step in and be the feature RB.

I hope their recruiting successes (or apparent successes) translate to dominance on the field. Love to see Albany do well!

Me too, but unless the school gets some kind of increase in funding for facilities we're going to be in hot water very soon.

Yeah, but the current Admin hasn't shown its ability to effectively harness its alumni connections. They've squandered away a lot of opportunity over the last 6 years following a pipe-dream of a $60 million stadium, when they could have built something reaosnable (and expandable) with all of the private funding out there. Now guys like me are starting to feel pretty alienated when we get even get an update from the athletic department on the status of the project. No website. No timeline. Nothing.

I second Danefan's comments. Until they start getting real...and HONEST...and OPEN...they wont get money from alumni like us.

Sadly, the Development people are absolutely great...and work their tails off, but the school continually lies to us and it has turned many of us off.

I'll second that notion about the Development folks. hard working and honest. Unfortunately they don't have much to work with.

I think Albany is always the team to be in the NEC. ;)

This year should be interesting. Last year was a down year for the NEC, IMO. CCSU won't be nearly as strong as they were last year without Mallory.

If RMU is anywhere near as strong on Defense as they were in the last 5 games of last season I could easily see a challenge coming from them for the championship.

On the field, Albany is looking pretty solid. Too bad the off-field stuff is holding the program back.

It would be extremely presumptuous of me to predict that Duquesne might be the team to beat in the NEC this year, but with Dave Opfar now handling the Dukes' defense this year and working from the assumption that Duquesne cannot possibly suffer as many significant injuries as they did last year, I would say that folks in the NEC had better not overlook the Dukes.
