Idaho State Football SID in running to win DHARMA van!
Idaho State Football SID in running to win DHARMA van!
Forgive the slight intrusion, but I'm the football SID at Idaho State, and I'm coming to the FCS fans for a little help. The folks at E-Griz said there are a ton of LOST fans here, so I'm shilling for votes on something. I entered a video into a contest for the show LOST, specifically the Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack. Long story shot, my video...this one:
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
was picked as a finalist, and now it's up against nine other videos in an internet vote off, with the winner getting a working DHAMRA Initiative van. I'm like in third place right now, and I need as many people as possible to log into youtube and give my video a thumbs up, and then if you had time, you can even thumbs down the other nine videos (you can get to them at the pull down menu at the top of the page). You can vote once a day for as long as the contest runs...which I know they announce the winner on May 23rd.
I made this promise to the Griz faithful...we come up to Griz country this year in October for football. I will drive the Dhamra Van behind the ISU busses, and I'll have it at the game and any fans at the tailgate that are LOST fans can get pictures next to it, in it, whatever. I feel like that's the least I could do. I usually do a radio interview on the main station there so if I win I will work it out with them and the Griz athletic department to have the van in a spot where folks can see it and get photos and stuff. I will make that same promise for any close by road game...I'll drive it for folks to get pictures and see it...it's way cool.
Anyways, I can use all the help I can get on this. If you want to see the whole contest stuff, it's here:
http://www.globalcashcard.com/lost" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Anyways, I appreciate any help on this...I know I can win this thing with a little bit of help...thanks everyone.

Thanks guys...keep voting it is so appreciated. Idaho State has lost a lot lately (in fact, i did an entire set of game notes with a LOST theme) ... it would be justice for me to win after a 2-25 stretch in football.

Oh boy, listen guy.. I dont think its a good idea to broadcast your personal business like this. The Idaho State football program needs all the attention it can get. Since you're here I have some questions for you.
1. Why did ISU give a contract extension to a coach that didnt get positive results on the fb field?
2. ISU's football facility is the worst in the conference. It need to be renovated soon. Turf, seats, endzone walls, roof, all kinds of things need to be renovated.
3. FB attendance could be higher also.

Re: Idaho State Football SID in running to win DHARMA van!
1. Why did ISU give a contract extension to a coach that didnt get positive results on the fb field?
The contract extension was earned due to a couple of things...Coach Z. has helped with certain off the field improvements (locker room, video board, weight room, etc.), and he has stepped up to the plate and offered to play the likes of Georgia, Oklahoma, Arizona State, and Boise State, without asking for a lot in return. He was set up to have a rough start to all of his seasons so far, so it's almost hard to judge him accurately. We lost a lot of guys at Oklahoma and Arizona State that hurt us the rest of the season. This year his schedule is much fairer (Utah State early, Georgia late when they will probably rest some guys and pull the plug early if they get up big)
2. ISU's football facility is the worst in the conference. It need to be renovated soon. Turf, seats, endzone walls, roof, all kinds of things need to be renovated.
The turf is a Holt Arena issue, and with Holt as a multi-purpose facility, they (the Holt folks) want something that can be taken up and put out quickly, and field turf to this point can't roll up the way we need it too. the roof was renovated back in 1996 or so, and instead we went for the video board to help enhance the fan experience, and we are looking at some other small improvements. Seats aren't in our control either, and I have to sit in them for high school games, and they aren't the best, I'll admit.
3. FB attendance could be higher also.
Winning is going to be the prime factor in helping with that.
You voted and asked, I will gladly answer questions...ask Bengal fans, I'm pretty straight forward (and I'm on the road with softball, so I got time LOL)
Thanks so much for voting for my video by the way....keep it up...every day is a new chance to vote! Feel free to ask any questions.

Has ISU looked at other multi-purpose facilities that have recently replaced the astro-turf with field-turf? Northern Iowa just did it. I understand the need to keep the facility multip-use, but the old turf is just so dangerous.

1. I dont wanna be disrespectful but CMON! 'He stepped up to the plate'? He was just about forced to play those games for $$. Are you kidding me?ISUSID wrote:1. ... he has stepped up to the plate and offered to play the likes of Georgia, Oklahoma, Arizona State, and Boise State, without asking for a lot in return....

2. Bad decision. Fans dont want to sit in those old, hard, ugly seats. They dont want to watch a game in that old, dark, 1970's looking basement that is Holt Arena. The players, home & visiting hate playing on that hard, dry, rough, scratchy surface.
3. I disagree. UNH wins, EWU wins, Weber wins... and their attendance numbers? Meh. Its a combination of winning, advertisment, *AND* fan experience (also stadium design). ISU is 0 fer 3. ISU competes with top ranked BOISE STATE! You may think they dont really advertise but dont forget they have major ESPN coverage, they play on national tv, & the gimicky blue turf, not to mention the 40-50k stadium.
I know you're just the SID but open your eyes pal. I'm starting to think I care more about ISU than you do. I know for a fact ISU recruits guys right outta Socal, those players are jumping to UM, CP, UCD, NAU, ect bc ISU is too lazy & (purposly broke) to feed the fb program! Stop using your pull to get ppl to vote for LOST and help your suffering football program.

Re: Idaho State Football SID in running to win DHARMA van!
NAU's Dome is multi-purpose, and has the latest and greatest field turf.
Re: Idaho State Football SID in running to win DHARMA van!
this might be fun eh?
Yes, he stepped to the plate in that the twice took winnable games or home games away to play Idaho and Oklahoma. He never complained and a good chunk of the money went to help the department, and football only got a percentage.
We get our fair share of kids out of California. I care a great deal about ISU (duh...), but the seats the athletic department can't control. Updates are planned for Holt Arena as part of Bengal Village, but the town voted down a $24 million bond that would have done a ton of stuff to the building.
NAU has great turf, but their building is different in ours in that we roll the turf up sometimes daily depending on what is scheduled in the building. No question we need new turf, and athletically we are pushing for it. We just have to work out the logistics with the people who run the building.
I should mention that with ISU going through NCAA Certification, some of the issues you have brought up that we have been pushing for for years are potentially going to be addressed.

1. Winning 2 or 3 games in 2 seasons means ISU is *NOT* getting its fair share of *QUALITY* players from California. You can pick up unranked players & 1 star guys out of California all day long. Doesnt mean they're good. Apparently they aren't.ISUSID wrote: 1. We get our fair share of kids out of California.
2. The town voted down a $24 million bond that would have done a ton of stuff to the building.
2. Cmon, its Pocatello were talkin about, if you want a new/renovated stadium you have to look within. Throw a hidden 20$ in tuition or something, ISU has 13k undergrads.
Jared Allen — Minnesota Vikings defensive end
Wally Buono — current Canadian Football League head coach; winningest coach in CFL history
Matt Gutierrez-- Kansas City Chiefs quarterback
Merril Hoge — ESPN commentator and former Pittsburgh Steelers running back
Dirk Koetter — current Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator, former Head Coach for Boise State and Arizona State
Marvin Lewis — Cincinnati Bengals head coach
Bruce Nelson — CEO, Office Depot
William Petersen — actor, star of CSI: Las Vegas
You've got TONS of paid alum, you contact these guys and say the following: "Hey __________, whats up babe, remember when we helped you graduate, ect..? Well guess what? We need to renovate the dome & we need your help. Back when you were here the Dome looked great but now its gettin old and its a real eye sore. Plus the rest of the conference is really starting to step it up with;
UM's constant stadium upgrades,
MSU's new surface and renovation plan
NAU's video board & new surface
PSU's new surface, video board w/ribbon, additional seating ect,
Weber's new video board and 3 story pressbox
EWU's new pressbox, RED surface & video board, &
CSUS's new surface, & locker rooms.
By giving back to us were gonna give you all the publicity you can handle ect.. Can we count on you to come through for us like we cam through for you?"

Blue (I mean Black) Falkin does this with most of the newbies (especially if they are Big Sky newbies). Sort of like an initiation. Nothing ever posted should be taken personally. And you bring up something that I always wondered about. I know SIDs read this board, AGS and even the specific school boards. I'm not sure why none of them ever use this type of media as an outlet for their schools. I know there is a lot of BS spewed on these boards by fans about players, coaches, admins, etc..., but an SID that just comes on and posts links to article and provides other publicly available information (as Frank has done above) isn't really doing anything different than posting it on Twitter right?
Always something I wondered about. Seems like a wasted opportunity. These forums are the new "watercooler." You'd think they'd want to take advantage of that.
