Why not just have the "coastal" teams form a new conference? Also where would the non-conference opponents come from if it were just formed into one huge conference?
You wouldn't need anymore than you do right now. You would just have a couple of cross divisional games.
So there would be 9/10 conference games but only 8 count towards the conference schedule?
In Sac State's case, one non-conf goes for a payday game against an FBS team, which leaves two non-conf spots open. If another spot were used on a non-D1 school, where does that last non-conf game come from? The only regional FCS team left to schedule would be San Diego. I just don't see regularly scheduling a Southland Conference opponent as sustainable.

I see what you're saying but it wouldn't change it too much. You would have a payday game (or two) and a d2 if that is what you usually do and that makes 10 at least. I don't know but it doesn't seem like it would be that big of an issue to schedule H&H's with SLC & MVFC's but then again...I ain't making the budgets.

Fortunately we have been able to avoid whoring the football team out for that second FBS money game to make ends meet, I just hope it stays that way for good. A H&H would be a solution, unfortunately I just don't think it would draw at all...then again there aren't many BSC teams that draw so maybe the whole point is moot.

As long as we are pushing the NC back to January and getting a 3 week break, why not extend the regular season one week? If teams don't want a 12th game they can just take a second bye week.

The idea is to always start the playoffs on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.

Say, isn't that the same day as the Cotton Bowl, matter of fact, wasn't the Cotton Bowl moved to a 7pm kickoff? Maybe they'll move our game to the afternoon.

I realize that is the idea but that weekend (at least for App State) without the students on campus it is historically the smallest attendance we have for a home game all year. I would like the idea of an option for a 12th game and that to be a bye week. I don't really care for the 3 week break either as all momentum is lost.

Well in App State's case it most likely will always be a bye week as its unlikely ASU will end up in the bottom 8 and playing on Thanksgiving weekend anyway.
Why? I can see Liking the addition of the Big South and NEC, but what about the extra two "bubble" teams from the CAA, SoCon, MVFC, BSC or Southland?
The at-larges are required to add more auto-bids. Have to have at least as many at-larges as auto-bids. Extra bubble teams don't bother me either. Maybe NAU or UD will get in with 7 wins this year

And in the grand scheme of things, who does having a 7win UD or NAU in the playoffs hurt?

The champs from the NEC, Big South, MEAC and OVC when they lose to a 7 win UD or NAU.
And once again how is that bad for the playoffs? What's so different about the MEAC and OVC losing to a 7-win team in the opening round or a 8-win team in the first round?
Having more teams (and fans) involved in the playoffs is a good thing anyway you slice it Hen.

Are you saying that they should have a playoff round during the week of Christmas?

Calling this a "lame" stipulation is your opinion and it is not widely shared. Is it lame for major conferences that have the same stipulation? There are very solid reasons for it.

Then there would really be no one on campus. Some people stay at school thru Thanksgiving if they live too far away to go home for a few days. I don't think any school has classes between Christmas and New Years, so there wouldn't be anywhere near as much student support during this weekend.
