Bracket Extravaganza - Crazy Final Weekend

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Some crazy results this last week. Here's my final bracket & some notes.

- I put Villanova as the 2 seed, but I'm pretty certain the committee will give it to App State.

- There's been talk (& predictions) on FCS message boards of SIU getting a seed. I think they should be ranked ahead of UNI because of the head to head win, but I don't think either deserves a seed. JMU, Nova, App, & Montana should be the 4; they all have better credentials than the two MVC teams.

- The top 7 at-large teams seem pretty clear. Any of them (Wofford, UNH, Nova, Richmond, Cal Poly, UNI, & Montana) not making it would be an absolute shock.

- I chose Jacksonville State as my last team in, but I expect the committee will go with Liberty.

- Prairie View was removed from consideration because they have to wait until the Bayou Classic (next week) to know their fate in the SWAC West. They can't be in the playoffs if they win the SWAC West, so they won't be considered for the playoffs because they might have to back out.

Here are my bracket's disclaimers:

1. These are the teams I think should be in the field & how they should be seeded, not necessarily who I think the committee will choose.
2. I use a points system to determine playoff credentials (that's what the "+#" & "-#" next to the teams in the power rankings are). It's more of an attempt to rank each team's credentials than just a subjective ranking of how good each team is (like a top-25 poll). You can find an detailed explanation of my system in this thread (second post): http://www.championshipsubdivision.com/ ... f=4&t=877.

phx: I agree with all your teams except I think Liberty gets in over Jacksonville St. I also agree with the pairings (in that, I think that's what the committee will do). ALL cupcakes will stay in the East, and the four teams you've got gettin' cupcakes will get byes into the second round.

For geographic reasons, I think I would swap UNH and EKU around. Other than that, it looks pretty good.

I think Liberty will get in over Jacksonville State, too, I just don't think they should (I put Liberty behind W&M and Maine, as well). No-one really has a "woofed" argument, though, unless one of the other 7 is somehow left out. The teams contending for the last spot are all pretty borderline & clearly weaker than those 7 at-larges.

As for "cupcakes", I did pair the Griz with a relative cupcake in Texas State, the weakest team in the field.

I'm really hoping they don't pair Montana with Cal Poly again. That would be an egregious insult to both teams. Cal Poly has good enough attendance & facilities to deserve an unseeded home game, too.
