Oh jeez. More haters. :coffee:

It's okay if you don't get the big picture. It's not about you anyway. Funny how only McNeese fans (some, not all) are playing the hate card. No idea why but it doesn't look too good for you.

It should not surprise you that there are haters out there. I just was flipping through Phil Steele's Preseaon FCS Preview last night and had an ah ha moment that I posted on our message board this morning...

"Did you know that at 30,000 students GSU is in a three way tie (UC Davis and Texas State) for largest FCS enrollment. I was flipping through Phil Steele's FCS Previews last night/this morning and noticed how atypical our university size is for FCS. There are 3 or 4 universities in the 27k to 29k range and 3 or 4 in the 20k to 25k range. The rest of the 124 FCS schools (maybe 115 of them) are under 19k. About 3 of the 20k to 29k schools are Ivies so in other words schools that dont play post season and will never move up. Remove those and UC-Davis, Texas State and GSU stick out like enormous sore thumbs. Add to that the fact that the vast majority play in stadiums that seat less than 20k and you get a better idea as to why we are not particularly liked."

I kind of new a lot of this before but had never put all the pieces together before. Seeing that magazine with each schools enrollment listed was an epiphany. Suffice it to say that if your enrollment is 9000 and you play in a 10,000 stadium, chances are you will be FCS in 5, 10, 15 years. There is nothing wrong with that. Every school has to adapt to their individual circumstances. The problem with the haters is that when they see a 30k enrollment school in a recruiting hotbed the jealousy bells start going off because they realize that chances are that that school will be playing on national TV in FBS in 10 years. So stay the course TX State. Your day is coming.

The company probably didn't think about it and just said hey stick it there and didn't think it would cause problems. Colt got paid but didn't read the contract or realize what it was for or where it was going. That's the problem with a lot of these ads because advertisers can use their image and can stick it anywhere they want. Glad to see you guys got it removed though.

Column in today's Austin-American Statesman (ie: The Longhorn Paper) by John Kelso; a satirist/columnist who actually went to SWT/TXST but is really, sadly, a UT homer. His column comes out 3 times a week.

What's Colt McCoy doing in Bobcat country, for gosh sakes?

It's not "hate." Just an observation. The Texas State thing really does remind me of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette thing. It really does.

I think that if you'd been following the University of Louisiana at Lafayette thing you'd see what I mean.

Now, I will say that I think it's a "wannabe" thing in both cases. People may decide that "wannabe" isn't a bad thing. But there is absolutely no doubt that it's a "wannabe" thing.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Wannabe what? You think we want to be UT? You're delusional. The whole reason for the protestations was because TXST fans/students/alumni are tired of being called just that. The perception over here is that all TXST students are Longhorn wannabes...that is what this was attempting to disprove.
SWT was known as a party school and much of that has not changed in the eyes of John Q. Longhorn Fan (and apparently you too). This was one of the first times that pride in TXST has had a chance to show people like yourself that we do have pride in the school and do not want to be referred to as "people who couldn't get into UT"
This is new to SM and TXST and it is a step in the right direction.
Apparently, like Randy Stevens, you've no idea what this was really all about.

Interesting that the rest of the FCS understands it but our own conference mates seem to be clueless

As an alum of both UT and SWT, all I can say is get used to it.

As much as I hate to admit, SWT is a 'teachers college'. It's sole mission is to educate the educators and oh by the way lets also offer business, political science, music and other liberal arts.

UT is the state flagship and will always be better in all regards. This is based on funding and core mission. Until SWT opens the doors to a new professional school (law, medicine, pharmacy, architecture, etc.) it will be a liberal arts college and changing the name isnt going to change the public perception.

Sorry for the facts.

Nothing wrong with it, I loved my time in SM and SWT, but UT, A&M it isn't.
I hated my time at UT, fun town, but the holier than thou attitude got old, but it is somewhat warranted.

UT and TXST aren't in the same school system and it has to have been a v long time since you were in SM. Things have changed and continue to change.....albeit slowly.
University of Texas System - Flagship - UT Austin
University of Houston System - Flagship - UH
Texas A&M University System - Flagship - Texas A&M College Station
Texas Tech University System - Flagship - Texas Tech
Texas State University System - No Flagship
UT is the flagship of their system but not of the state of Texas

TXST is the 50th largest U in the US, the 5th largest in TX and has the 3rd toughest entrance requirements in the state of Texas. It is a Tier 1 Master's University. Don't base your input on what was.

Obviously you don't quite understand it either. TXST does not aspire to be UT or A&M, just to be respected on their own merits. Pride in the school has been a long time coming. This was just a small step in realizing that.
You need to go read more on BCF and maybe you'll get an idea of why this was so important to Texas State, its supporters and its fans.

Why maintain 5 separate public university SYSTEMS? I suspect that could be an issue!

Actually there's 6 major but I forgot to include the UNT system - which only has 2 schools in it.
Don't know why there are so many, actually. I'm a late comer to Texas and all it foibles (1982). Then you have the Independents and private, private liberal arts, Technicals, Comm Colleges & JUCO's (and they all have systems), Theological, law etc. etc. All I know is that there's a crap load of Universites and colleges in Texas.

Sorry, UT and A&M are the flagships of all higher education in Texas. The bank accounts prove it along with the global impact and public identity they provide.

Portland State is the biggest university in Oregon, are they the flagship of Oregon? I'd compare the admittance standards of TXST (SWT) to these two and there is no contest.

TXST might be declaring they are FBS, but in reality the FBS is slowing becoming the new FCS.

Flagships play in the BCS. Get into BCS and then you are truly a flagship in more than a quick name change.

It' s not about the money or who is or isn't a Flagship but if you must, A&M is not the number 2 on that top 3 admittance standards list. That would be Tech.
Regardless, this was about school pride. If you don't get it, I can't make you understand it and I won't keep the see-saw going here.
