If the WAC or MWC decides to go after Conference USA West schools, then a trickle-down effect would move to the East Coast.

Oh I know it's a terrible conference. I just thought it could happen as a marriage of (in)convenience for a disparate group of western schools looking to survive as a FBS conference.

Back when the realignment thing was at it's peak there were some rumors that UNI was a target for the MAC, CUSA, etc... pending what happened with the MWC and WAC.

I'm not a move up proponent at all, and seeing that engraved that thinking for me even more.

I don't know if this is their official website but they list themselves and Nevada as "Future members". Where is FSA when you need him.

The WAC is officially in survival mode. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if TxSt, UTSA and another FCS school receive invites within the next week or so.

The big question is that will the WAC just want to be at 8 schools or want to go ahead and shoot for 10-12?

Huge day here, Fresno St. finally get to join up with it's old foes. I wonder if BYU will still join the WAC or accept the offer from the WCC?

WAC replacements

Right now it doesn't even sound close UTSA and Texas St. seem to be the ones that everyone one the WAC board thinks is ready and willing to go now. Montana is a distant 3rd because they need to add sports and might not want to join anyway.

So who else will go to make 8? Montana, Sac St., Portland St.? Right now it seems PSU would get the 8th spot since they seem to be the next most willing to go. We shall see. Don't forget UC Davis and Cal Poly down the road either or SHSU.

I also think that if BYU stays that Houston will be invited to the MWC. If BYU leaves they could still add UH and UTEP. If that happens La Tech will either end up in CUSA(I think they take MTSU, UNT or FAU) or rejoin the Sun Belt since it would be closer and better than the WAC. Even if BYU leaves and the MWC stays at 10 I see La Tech going to the Sun Belt since the WAC travel is a bitch.

BYU is going independent in large part because they have that wonderful BYU national TV network. Its a money deal for them.

New WAC?:

WAC North:
Idaho
Utah State
Montana
Wyoming
SDSU
North Dakota State

Wac South:
Hawaii
San Jose State
New Mexico State
Texas State
UT San Antonio
Louisianna Tech

I honestly don't think Montana makes a move without Montana St.

You're high. Why would Wyoming join the WAC? Same for San Diego State?

I just threw up a little. That would put them somewhere between the OVC and MEAC in terms of strength of conference.

I said this on egriz:

Stack Montana, Montana State, Weber State, EWU & NAU up against THAT group and we potentially go 5-0. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

C'mon MWC, pick a 12th (or if BYU leaves, 2 teams) from CUSA. Time to bust that conference up and make a hole for my Niners!!!!

Fresno, I don't know where you get the idea that PSU is considering the WAC. No doubt our AD dreams of the valhalla of Bowl football. No doubt we could play WAC even in basketball, volleyball, soccer, even football in a year or two. But like Montana we'd have to add sports and add a helluva lot more money into athletics, money we haven't got. Sac State's in the same bind. For all the loose talk here on the board, it always comes down to money.

IMHO you won't see La Tech to Sunbelt. They have worked hard to avoid association with the other Lousiana FBS schools not located in Red Stick.

Does anybody know the procedures for inviting FCS schools in light of the moratorium?

And yes, the WAC desperately needs the two Texas schools as much as the MWC needs UH. But I don't see UH entering that league without the ability to bail should an opportunity arise with a BCS league. It is not coincidence that both UH & TCU have unveiled plans for major stadium upgrades this summer. Those two schools desperately want to rejoin their old Southwest Conference brothers.

I have no idea how C-USA will react if defections begin but I would bet they immediately go after La Tech and I'll bet Troy is somebody they consider thoroughly.
