Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
BYU plays in a 22K arena for Bball the biggest WCC school 5.5K There's a reason only ND, Navy and Army are Indy. ND would NOT be indy if they had to play other sports in the Horizon League. Yeah the WCC has Gonzaga and St.Mary's but are fans gonna come to see USF, Santa Clara, LMU, USD, Pepperdine, Portland and possible future member Seattle? My guess no, they'll just watch on BYUtv. To quote South Park on their Mormon episode "dumb dumb dumb dumb" They shoulda stayed in the MWC and hoped for an AQ then left IF the Big 12 invites them in 6 years.
So if BYU plays a hard schedule assuming they can land 7 or 8 good teams, they'll finish 8-4 and no bcs. What bowls do the WCC have If they play an easy schedule they go 10-2 and don't go to a bcs game.
Example of a Future BYU schedule (*already on it)
2011
*Texas 0-1
*Oregon St. 1-1
*Utah 1-2
*Hawaii 2-2
*Utah St. 3-2
Idaho 4-2
Weber St. 5-2
Notre Dame 5-3 (I'm catholic)
New Mexico St. 6-3
Army 7-3
Navy 8-3
San Jose St. 9-3
awesome

Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
Here's BYU's deam schedule (If you go to the MWC board they actually believe this and that they'll go 10-2 or 11-1)
USC
Texas
Oklahoma
Utah
Oregon
Utah St.
Hawaii
Boise St.
TCU
Florida
Notre Dame
Ohio St.
Most of those teams are saying get back on your bicycles, with your blue slacks, white shirt, and tie and peddle off little one.

Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
UOP, Seattle, Denver were looked at in 2007 or 08. Seattle is Catholic and a former member, the other 2 are just private. Pepperdine doesn't belong to a church either. Back in 2007 they said they wanted an even number. I hope they still want that, since I'm for movement. I want Seattle to return.frinq wrote:Would the WCC ever add a admittedly private but very secular UOP?
dback, I'm catholic and I think you queers should be able to get married. I have to call you a queer or else I'll get kicked out of the church for agreeing with you.

I count up to 9 possible losses on that schedule...especially given the teams talent levels right now.Fresno St. Alum wrote:Here's BYU's deam schedule (If you go to the MWC board they actually believe this and that they'll go 10-2 or 11-1)

Not saying you are wrong, but where can you point me to that says BYU is already on Hawaii's 2011 schedule? As far as I know, before all this started happening a couple weeks ago, Hawaii's OOC schedule was full. Of course that has all been blown up and they certainly have room for BYU now.Fresno St. Alum wrote:BYU plays in a 22K arena for Bball the biggest WCC school 5.5K There's a reason only ND, Navy and Army are Indy. Also, Army and Navy are both full up next year, and it is just as likely that BYU starts out 0-3 and drops that game to Navy as well (even though there won't be a game with Navy).

Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
The WAC is far from finished. CUSA would be wise to add La Tech and with no issue in getting home games Hawaii should probably go independent as well. The remaining members have no such options so the league will have no recourse but to reach out to some FCS schools. The Big Sky and more likely the Great West are who should be nervous as they are on the verge of losing their marquee programs. With only five teams in the fold, should the Great West suffer a loss of one or two members they will be the conference to disappear.

I'm not usually a pessimist, but I have to agree with you on this one for now.Big McLargehuge wrote:The WAC is dead. Mixed feelings all around about this.
If it looks like a cow, smells like a cow, and moo's like a cow, it's a UC Davis coed.

Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
Wasn't the invite to Utah State more based on enticing BYU to stay to keep the in-state rivalry intack and less to do with the contributions USU could make the MWC? Do you really think they will still be invited to join the MWC?Herky wrote:I'm not usually a pessimist, but I have to agree with you on this one for now.Big McLargehuge wrote:The WAC is dead. I thought I read on the Sun Belt board last week that Pepperdine and Denver were no longer affiliated with any religion.Mike Johnson wrote:Pepperdine University is affiliated with and financially supported by the Churches of Christ, an offshoot of the Disciples of Christ. http://www.pepperdine.edu/about/pepperd ... tradition/Fresno St. Alum wrote: UOP, Seattle, Denver were looked at in 2007 or 08. Re: BYU going Independant/WCC
The MWC had the Boise St. prez talk to them to see if they were interested, when they said no they knew something was up then official invites were only sent to Fresno/Nevada. No one sends an invite that gets declined. USU would only get an invite if MWC still wants 12 and Houston, UTEP, Tulsa, SMU say no. I don't think they want the Utah market that bad. Hawaii and Utah St. would be a last resort if there was a need for 12.GrizFamily wrote:Wasn't the invite to Utah State more based on enticing BYU to stay to keep the in-state rivalry intack and less to do with the contributions USU could make the MWC?
