No definite. Just a recomendation really. The They still need $$$ and formal approvals.
Re: Kennesaw State announces Football
I assume they would be playing their games at the soccer stadium on campus. 8500 is reasonable for FCS football and stadium was just built.

Its a really nice stadium that could easily be expanded if necessary.afrankl3 wrote:I assume they would be playing their games at the soccer stadium on campus. 8500 is reasonable for FCS football and stadium was just built.

Fine lookin' faclility. Can't tell if their soccer pitch is laid out at 110 yards (100M), or 120 yards (FB field). If it is 110 yds, gonna be a squeeze for FB, unless they are capable of moving back one fence a few feet.
1-AA is tops!!

Looks tight for sure. Compare to Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, which we know can fit a football field.kdinva wrote:Fine lookin' faclility. Looks like there is more room behind the goals at Pizza Hut Park then at KSU's soccer stadium

Funny thing is Longwood applied to the Big South yet again, today ,I think. Kennesaw St. would win out easy as the 12th full member since they will have football. A-Sun should be on the phone with Longwood to bring them in to replace KSU as the 10th member. Then the A-Sun can go after Lincoln Memorial and W.Florida when the moratorium is up if the 2 schools are still interested in D-I.

I wish Winthrop would get a football program. They already have a very nice stadium practically on their campus that has new turf. They could lease it from the school district. No conflict cause high schools play on Friday night. It has been kicked around but the President says unless someone donates the monies, it ain't gonna happen. This is a football crazy town too with 3 highly rated high schools, Rock Hill, Northwestern and South Pointe. I can promise you the stands would be full every Saturday!T-Dog wrote:This won't be the last southern football start-up in the near future me thinks.

Re: Kennesaw State announces Football
Wow, who would have thought they were Georgia’s third-largest university.
There are still some other sleepy giants out there who could add football soon, like VCU and GMU both have over 30K in students. I'm mixed with VCU, but think football would be a better fit for GMU. Are there many states with more CFB Div-1 teams than Va?
UVA
VaTech
WM
JMU
Liberty
Richmond
ODU
VMI
NSU
Hampton
Thats alot of teams. I heard today that WM recruits in Minnesota, cause they only have one Div-1 team in the state. Seem like a good idea. Adding two more teams in Va could make recruiting even tougher.

I know, thats what I was thinking. Truth be told, I wasn't certain what state they were in. So I goggled them and that's what they claim.Big McLargehuge wrote:Wait, wait, wait...this is Georgia's third largest school?

Re: Kennesaw State announces Football
They won't be the 3rd largest for very long. Georgia Southern, according to 2010 enrollment not yet announced is at about 22,000, and will be over 25,000 in the next couple of years according to the new president, with just about 100% of that on campus. KSU, like Georgia State, is a huge commuter school with an aged student population. These kind of schools won't succeed, because the vast majority of their students have no loyalty to them.

That sounds a little like UNI, yet we do well.eagleskins wrote:They won't be the 3rd largest for very long. Its a chicken and egg situation.eagleskins wrote:They won't be the 3rd largest for very long. In fact, changing the culture from a commuter is the driving force behind adding football at KSU as was discussed in the press conference.

Metro Atlanta's KSU starts Football in 2014
Nancy King, senior women's administrator of Kennesaw State University Athletics, presents coaching legend Vince Dooley with a football helmet.
By Ken Sugiura
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Vince Dooley, the legendary football coach who led Kennesaw State's football exploratory committee for the last 10 months, provided unwitting explanation Wednesday why the school will pursue fielding a team.
Said the coach, speaking to hundreds of expectant students and faculty at the school convocation center, "[The committee's] recommendation was overwhelmingly positive in favor of starting football at Kansas State University." (Watch the video.)

Dooley paused as students in the convocation center reminded him of his whereabouts. He then sank in embarrassment. But a point was made. The school wants its name out there and believes a football team is the way to get there.
A football team, school president Daniel Papp said, will "increase and expand national recognition of the institution, highlight important work taking place on campus in teaching, research, scholarship, creative activities and service."
The plan is for the school to begin play in 2014. It will play in the FCS (formerly Division I-AA), the same level that Georgia State is playing in its first season. The team will play in KSU Soccer Stadium, which until now has been known as the home of the Atlanta Beat and has been billed as the largest gender-specific soccer stadium in the country.

They're already starting on KSU.eagleskins wrote:They won't be the 3rd largest for very long. Yep, they have an aged population. That's why the average age of their Undergrads is 24 years old.
See: http://vic33.kennesaw.edu/EIMWebApps/vi ... ode=200908" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Yep, Georgia Southern is going to catch up to KSU in enrollment. Just like KSU caught up with Georgia Southern back in 2003:
http://www.usg.edu/research/students/en ... t00-09.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2001 Enrollment
- Southern: 14,184
- KSU: 13,373
2002 Enrollment
- Southern: 14,371
- KSU: 13,951
2003 Enrollment
- Southern: 15,075
- KSU: 15,654
And KSU hasn't looked back since.
