The Next Minnesota Gophers Coach Is?
December 1st Minnesota Coach Tim Brewster's buyout drops to $200,000 and he will probably be a goner. Minnesota will let him finish his 1 win season and then start the search. Sounds like they want some one familiar with the region that can develope a good relationship with area High School coaches, as Minnesota loses a lot of talent to Wisconsin, Iowa and the Dakota's. Any good choices from the FCS schools? Brewster is 1-2 against the FCS Dakota Schools to boot.
Probably not going to be Craig Bohl at NDSU. Gophers don't want a coach that has been previously fired from a big-time school.

Re: The Next Minnesota Gophers Coach Is?
I'll start with one coach that has been mentioned by the Minnesota Media, Al Golden of Temple from the MAC. Not FBS, but he is one that has been mentioned.
Re: The Next Minnesota Gophers Coach Is?
Possibly Mark Whipple, OC at UMiami. Ex-Steelers QB Coach and UMass HC. He will be a Head Coach at FBS next year. Wether or not it's Minnesota, not so sure.

Re: The Next Minnesota Gophers Coach Is?
Rumor's on the sports talk shows today are saying Minnesota's Tim Brewster will be fired if he loses this weekend.
Re: The Next Minnesota Gophers Coach Is?
I think its an 11 o'clock kickoff Gill, at Purdue of course.
Big game now. I hope he wins.

Dear Lord, We come before you and humbly ask you to grant our prayer for a veil of protection to be placed over Donald Trump. May your will be done. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the current head coach of the underachieving Sacramento Mountain Lions. He has connections in the state of MN.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Before he left, some people spelled out in the snow outside Vikings headquarters how much they loved him.SuperHornet wrote:?!?youngterrier wrote:Mark Richt

Re: The Next Minnesota Gophers Coach Is?
Bohl(NDSU), Stigelmeier(SDSU), Meierkort(USD), Farley(UNI), Lennon(SIU)......all have given Brewster a run for his money or more. They recruit and coach better. Stig has been closer to beating Nebraska than Brewster ever will be as well as nearly knocking U of M off, Farley takes on the Iowa schools better than the Gophs have in almost a decade. Bohl and Meierkort both beat him. Bohl also has more FBS wins than Brewster too(that was mostly a joke....kind of). Lennon originally coached up in UND and has done well down at SIU. These 5 coaches all get it done with significantly less money and talent. What's not to love?
(Stig would never go(but I think he should give it a shot if he had the chance), Meierkort would be there in a heartbeat, Farley would be a toss up, Bohl should go before NDSU fans decapitate him, Lennon seems like he'd go )
Truth be told: U of M will look for a big time name, they are tired of being the whipping boy for the Big 10

I'm no insider, but the only way Mark Richt keeps his job at Georgia is if he wins EVERY game for the rest of this season.SuperHornet wrote:?!?youngterrier wrote:Mark Richt

Re: The Next Minnesota Gophers Coach Is?
Jerry Kill has been hired, former coach of SIU.
Not a popular decision to the casual fan in Minnesota, but he is much better than Brewster IMO.

Joel Maturi must have meant it when he said he wanted to hire a coach who could bring a winner to TCF Bank Stadium. The man he chose, after a six-week, coast-to-coast search, is already 1-0 in his new home.
Jerry Kill, who led Northern Illinois to a 34-23 victory over Minnesota on Sept. 25, has been hired to take over the woebegone Gophers, the university announced Sunday night. The 49-year-old coach, who has never had a losing record in four previous smaller-school stops, has agreed to a five-year contract and will be introduced on campus at 2 p.m. Monday.
Kill gathered NIU players together after a season-ending banquet in DeKalb, Ill., Sunday night and broke the news that he is leaving before the Huskies' appearance in the Humanitarian Bowl, their third consecutive postseason game. Then he accompanied Maturi and other Minnesota officials on a flight back to the Twin Cities, and into a new chapter of his life.
The university did not reveal Kill's salary, but it figures to be a large increase from the $381,000 he was earning at Northern Illinois. Tim Brewster, who went 15-30 in 3 1/2 seasons, was paid roughly $1 million per year.

But the search, with the help of an executive-placement firm that was paid $90,000 for its help, seemed to founder from one rumored candidate to another. According to multiple reports, San Diego State's Brady Hoke, Air Force's Troy Calhoun and Houston's Kevin Sumlin, among many others, were approached but ultimately not hired.
"We cast a wide net in this search," Maturi said in a statement, "but the name we kept coming back to was Jerry Kill."
Transalation: After everyone else turned us down, we hired the person who's used to wearing a fur-lined parka to July 4th cookouts.....

Good point, is someone really going to come from San Diego or Houston to coach in Minnesota.Appaholic wrote:But the search, with the help of an executive-placement firm that was paid $90,000 for its help, seemed to founder from one rumored candidate to another. Could end up being a very good hire, but it will take the casual Gopher fans a while to warm up to him.dbackjon wrote:Good hire for Minnesota
I'm surprised how little the sports writers here even know about him.
