Interesting Massey Ratings information...

The Massey ratings are some big stupid formula. I don't know what it is.

However, he also has a ranking that takes out "preseason bias and margin of victory" so that it can be used for the BCS.

Some big FCS differences...

Nova is 7 in the ratings, but 33 when you take out MoV and preseason bias.

Griz are 11, but 37 when you take out MoV and preseason bias.

JSU are 9, but 2 when you take out MoV and preseason bias.

SEMO St. is 27, but 14 when you remove the other stuff.

UNH is 28, but 56 when you remove the other stats.

Liberty, Grambling, and McNeese are 41/42/43, but are 25, 10, and 18 respectively when you take out Preseason and Margin of Victory.

Computers that prove themselves wrong. Awesome!

Massey never seems to make much sense- Based on that, Liberty is 17th in DII, 40th in FCS, and falls 50 spots behind Ball St. Not that any of these figures are wrong, but there seems to be very little correlation between most of the FCS and DII.

By the way, Liberty takes the back seat to Abilene Christian; maybe they need to develop some type of "Bible" bowl for the Presbys, Libertys and Abilene Christians (oh...CSU, too) of the NCAA. It could be based on the Massey ratings- and it would make about as much sense as the HBCU poll does.

The IWFL uses Massey Ratings to determine who goes to the playoffs to ensure that the "best" teams play each other. It's one of the most confusing things EVER. It's worse than passer rating.
