If you let him play this year, you could still redshirt him next year. Either way, he has 5 years to play 4 years.ur2K wrote: But if you play him this year until Laub gets back which may only be 2 weeks, you will likely only have him for 4 years instead of 5.
Look at the QBs we have on the roster, Corp will have 1 year left after this one, Laub will have 2. You redshirt White this year and have him as the starter for 2 full years instead of 1 after Laub leaves. I don't want to mortgage the future on what is looking like a year where we don't have to worry about the postseason.

These kids don't want to play a few games and be forced to take a year off.
Find a temporary solution until Laub is back. Leave the Redshirt on White.

That's my point. If you play him now, you can still redshirt him next year, since he'll be 3rd string again. Then he'll still be the starter (if he earns it) for 2 years after Laub.ur2K wrote:But if you play him this year until Laub gets back which may only be 2 weeks, you will likely only have him for 4 years instead of 5.ChoppinBroccoli wrote:
I completely disagree about the freshman. If we cling to his redshirt this year, and he never takes a snap in 2011 (he will be 3rd string again next year) we will have wasted a year of his eligibility.

Option one: Sees action in '10, RS in '11, QB2 in '12, QB1 in '13 & '14.
Option two: RS in '10, QB3 = NO Action in '11, QB2 in '12, QB1 in '13 & 14.
Either way he doesn't play next season. And option 1 gives him more game experience.

How many kids take a redshirt (without injury) after playing as a true frosh? I know it can be done, but how often does that actually happen? I just don't see that as a realistic option.

Lastly, what if Corp's rehab is delayed and he isn't ready for next year? White may compete for the Starting Job as Redshirt Frosh next fall!

UD is doing it with one of their QBs. I believe they've done it with other players also. We had injuries that made us use people we were going to redshirt. While not the standard way to get a player to reach his fifth year, if you have depth at their position in one of the following years, you can let them catch up on their growth.ur2K wrote:How many kids take a redshirt (without injury) after playing as a true frosh? Don't look now, but UR just beat #8 UMass at UMass using nothing but Wildcat offense until the final drive, using their 4th string true freshman QB.
UR's D played amazingly today.
