SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
BCC is now 6-0 on the season. SC State falls to 4-2. Hopefully voters notice that SCSU hasn't really done anything this season and rank them appropriately.

Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
I had SC State #17 on my AGS ballot last week. I will have no problem dropping SC St. out of Top 25 and putting BC in. Impressive win today and one I didn't expect!ToTheLeft wrote:BCC is now 6-0 on the season. SC State falls to 4-2. I didn't have SC State in my poll until last week and I've been looking at BCC for the last 2 weeks so now I have a reason to give them the respect.ToTheLeft wrote:BCC is now 6-0 on the season. Ashton from Ill St. carries another 5 or 6 Bison with him for about 12 yds. Ill St. showing power & speed again.

Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
SCSt was 13 in my last poll, and BC 22. BC will move up into the Top 20 (probably between 15-20), and SCSt will either be in the 20-25 range or completely out, depending on how the rest of the day goes.
Great win for BC though!

What a fuckin' idiot! I was wondering where that post went.

SCSU will be right at the edge of my Top 25. They have a great chance to win out and get an at-large bid.

Like I mentioned on here yesterday morning, SC State is not as good this year as the last two teams that went to the playoffs. IMO, they have done nothing that warrants them an at-large bid even if they win out.

We lose to a legit top 25 team this year and we have not done anything to warrant a at large bid going 9-2??? why am I not suprised....that someone would say this...yea the offense is not as explosive but trust me our defense is 10 times better than the previous two years that we wave gone 10-1...but fortuantly for us you dont get a sayAppStateAlumQC wrote:Like I mentioned on here yesterday morning, SC State is not as good this year as the last two teams that went to the playoffs. Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
Who will you have beaten if you go 9-2? A bunch of teams from the worst AQ conference in all of FCS, and nothing out of conference. The fact that your one loss came to a top 25 team proves that you're NOT a top 25 team, because you couldn't beat, or even score against, a top 25 team.scsudawg2007 wrote:We lose to a legit top 25 team this year and we have not done anything to warrant a at large bid going 9-2??? why am I not suprised....that someone would say this...yea the offense is not as explosive but trust me our defense is 10 times better than the previous two years that we wave gone 10-1...but fortuantly for us you dont get a sayAppStateAlumQC wrote:Like I mentioned on here yesterday morning, SC State is not as good this year as the last two teams that went to the playoffs. Having a good defense isn't on the criteria list for making the playoffs. AppStateAlumQC's thoughts are much closer to the committee's than yours are. So he might not get a say, but you don't, either, and his is closer to what they WILL say.

Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
You say this, but I look at the teams you are putting in your top 25, and I'm wondering the same damn thing about them. I've asked you that, and you have said something along the lines of "Well, they keep winning even if it is against bad teams".ToTheLeft wrote:Who will you have beaten if you go 9-2? You can't justify putting one team because they win even if against bad teams, but then tell another team they aren't a top 25 team because they "haven't beaten anyone"

I think the term we are searching for would be something of Homerhypocristradiction

"But the damned and the guiltiest among you are the men who had the capacity to know, yet chose to blank out reality, the men who were willing to sell their intelligence into cynical servitude..."

^THIS
Could it be that SC State is a good Top 25-worthy team, but lost to an even better Top 25-worthy team?
Or is that too much to ask?

Say if SCSU plays App, UD, and JMU as their OOCs and plays them all tough but loses close. Are you saying that those losses make them not a Top 25? Its that VERY argument that keeps HALF of the teams in the Top 25 that are there now...hell, it keeps the CAA on the mantle they reside.
Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
Name one team I'm doing that with? Because if it's SEMO St. which is the ONE team you asked me about that, not "teams", then UNI doesn't belong either. UNI is in my poll for the same reason SEMO St. is so high in my poll, SIIU.clenz wrote:You say this, but I look at the teams you are putting in your top 25, and I'm wondering the same damn thing about them. I have a reason for every team in my poll. Don't paint me with a broad brush with your stupid generalizations you use for EVERYDAMNTHING.

SCSU has. done. NOTHING. They got destroyed by the best team they played (GT), and then got SHUT OUT, aka scored no points, against the next best team (B-CU).
They have 3 DI wins over teams that are, frankly, terrible. FAMU struggled with Del State, and you should know how bad they are this season. SC State's best win is that same FAMU team.
I'll post my poll, tell me one team that SC State is better than in terms of RESUME.

Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
Like I said, if SIU is a good loss for UNI, it's a good win for SEMO St. I'm sure I have them higher than everyone else in the world, but I had them in after the SIU win, and they've kept creeping up.

Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
I wouldn't say it's a good loss. Not a terrible one, but SIU is not looking too hot at this point
Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
And I am a mid-major guy, my bias will always be towards them. I'll admit that "Strength of schedule" as a stand-alone stat is something I never, ever use. I consider strength of opponent when I look at a team's games, but overall SOS isn't something I rub all over myself like High-Major teams fans do when they make polls. It's just where I'm at.

Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
Wait, why am I trying to understand MFVC teams
Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
Well, I accepted outside thoughts on this one, and I came to the conclusion that SIU was a good loss for UNI and a good win for SEMO St.Silenoz wrote:I wouldn't say it's a good loss. Not a terrible one, but SIU is not looking too hot at this point
And I got to watch them against Ball State, and they were competitive for 3 quarters, and had a Chatty-like collapse at the end. I don't hold it against them.

Re: SC State lost to Bethune Cookman
SC State-
Lost (not competitive) to unranked but strong ACC team in GT.
Won (easily) against winless MIssissippi Valley State, one of the worst FCS teams.
Won a non DI game easily
Won at middle of the pack MEAC team FAMU in a shutout. (BEST GAME ON RESUME)
Won at home against Norfolk State, seemingly a middle to bottom MEAC team.
Lost to Bethune-Cookman at home by shutout, B-CU is the best team in the MEAC thus far.
Played 3 games in MEAC, lowest rated conference in all of division 1 football, record of 2-1.
Furman-
Beat Colgate (easily) at home. Colgate is a projected playoff team and contender for the Patriot league crown (PL is higher ranked than the MEAC) (BEST GAME ON RESUME)
Lost (not very competitive) to FBS ranked SEC team South Carolina
Won against bottom of the barrel SoCon team The Citadel
Lost at SoCon co-leader Wofford
Beat MEAC cellar dweller Howard very easily
Won at Samford
Played 3 games in the SoCon, 4th best conference in FCS football, record of 2-1
Richmond-
Lost at not very good FBS ACC team Virginia
Won against middle of the pack SoCon team Elon
Lost against top 2 team Delaware
Beat Big South title contender Coastal Carolina by a wide margin
Lost at middle of the pack CAA team UNH (Lost starting QB)
Beat top 10 UMass with no QB (Best game)
Played 3 games in the CAA, 2nd best conference in FCS football, record of 1-2
GSU-
Beat really, really bad Savannah State by a lot
Lost to likely FBS Bowl participant Navy in a competitive game
Won at Big South title contender Coastal Carolina by a decent margin
Won against SoCon middle of the pack Elon (Best game)
Lost against SoCon title contender Wofford
Lost against top 3 SoCon team Chattanooga, who was competitive with 2 of the best teams in the nation
Played 3 games in SoCon, 4th best FCS conference, record of 1-2
UNI
Beat then ranked NDSU (Best Game)
Lost by 2 to top 5 SFA
Lost at FBS Iowa state somewhat competitively
Won against MVFC middle of the pack SDSU
Lost against MVFC middle of the pack SIU in overtime
Beat South Dakota, who won an FBS game over Minn.
Played 3 games in MVFC, 3rd best FCS conference, record of 2-1
All those teams have a better win than SCSU, all have comparable records in much better conferences, and while some have more losses, the losses are to higher ranked teams, and the wins are against higher ranked teams. GSU is the main gripe, and after taking a better look at their resume, they're likely out of my next poll should they fail to utterly dominate The Citadel. But even then, it's likely that Penn, leader of the 9th ranked Ivy league, with only a loss to CAA middle of the pack Villanova, or NDSU with an FBS win and middle of the pack status in the 3rd best conference, would get in before SCSU.
