From ‘Phil Steele’s 2007 College Football Preview‘ magazine, national edition, page 11 – “…My goal is to have it be BY FAR the most in-depth I-AA (he says earlier in the article that he uses FCS and I-AA interchangeably and invites comments on that) preseason magazine and like the I-A version to be the most accurate. This year once again my I-AA guide will be found in the Pac-10 Regional Magazine. It will be AT LEAST 35 pages.”
He later says “…I would love to increase the coverage to a half-page (for each FCS school) next year and then perhaps to a full page in upcoming years. If that happens, then FCS would have its own complete magazine. As always, it will happen if the demand is high enough so you, the reader, hold the key. If you are passionate about I-AA football then head out to any newsstand in the West where the Pac-10 Regional is sold and pick one up this year. If you are not out West you can order the magazine on my website http://www.philsteele.com or by calling xxx-xxx-xxxx.” He ends the article by saying “Finally I-AA (FCS) fans have increased coverage and if the reader speaks out it could just be the tip of the iceberg!”
I’m not trying to help Steele sell magazines (that’s why I left out the phone number – it’s on the website) but post this so those who read his magazine will either send in his comment form located near the back of the magazine or email him (email address is at the bottom of the front page of his website) and encourage him to increase his coverage of FCS football next year and beyond. Of course, I’m sure he would prefer the comment form because that means you’ve purchased his magazine and he says elsewhere in the magazine that he reads every written comment he gets every year.
He is outwardly saying he is eager to do a I-AA magazine if he gets the feedback from his readers that we want him to do so. I think his existing magazine is the best one out there – as he says, it is ‘jampacked with information”. If you’re interested in encouraging him to do a FCS/I-AA magazine, let him know.
This is a link to a recent ESPN article on college preview magazine and prominently mentions Steele.
