Wofford outbid GSU?
Anyone else surprised that Wofford outbid GSU for this game?
GSU averages about 10,000 a game more than Wofford.

GSU did not submit a bid for the second round whereas Wofford did. I think I heard somewhere that GSU's graduation day is on the same day as the game and that's why but I don't know

Re: Wofford outbid GSU?
You're correct about the date of graduation but I am unsure as to what caused the NCAA to award the game to Wofford... lots of speculation on message boards but nothing worth hanging your hat on.youngterrier wrote:GSU did not submit a bid for the second round whereas Wofford did. Re: Wofford outbid GSU?
because (according to the Wofford broadcasters on the radio) GSU did not submit a bid for a second round game. Wofford did and therefore got the home gameblueballs wrote:You're correct about the date of graduation but I am unsure as to what caused the NCAA to award the game to Wofford... lots of speculation on message boards but nothing worth hanging your hat on.youngterrier wrote:GSU did not submit a bid for the second round whereas Wofford did. Re: Wofford outbid GSU?
second-round bids are irrelevent, as Wofford/GSU is a THIRD round game.

May be a moot point but if UNH beats UD.. did GSU submit a bid for a 4th (12/18)
round game?
round game?

Shame on the GSU AD if they didn't submit a bid.

Re: Wofford outbid GSU?
That would make sense in all normal circumstances......except when you're dealing with the NCAA. Home games between unseeded teams in the FCS playoffs are awarded based on financial bids submitted by the two teams. More $$$ gets the game, unless there are some extraordinary circumstnaces (e.g. Albany probably couldn't buy a game because it has such substandard facilities).CatMom wrote:could also be because Wofford has the better record? just speculatin'
Re: Wofford outbid GSU?
So if you submitted a bid, would they just take the money and hold the game somewhere else, anyways?danefan wrote:That would make sense in all normal circumstances......except when you're dealing with the NCAA. No they'd give it back because they would be so embarrased for us.mebison wrote:So if you submitted a bid, would they just take the money and hold the game somewhere else, anyways?danefan wrote:

Thank god though we only have one more season to deal with it though.

http://www.gadaily.com/index.php/sports ... finals-bid" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Georgia Southern University officials did not place a bid to host the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs before the deadline, according to an NCAA official.
J.D. Hamilton, the assistant director of statistics for the NCAA, said in an e-mail that Georgia Southern did not submit a bid to host the quarterfinal game before the deadline of November 12.
A representative from Georgia Southern Athletics said that bids were placed for the first two rounds of the playoffs.
In a statement, Rose Carter, Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Media Relations said, “Georgia Southern submitted a bid to host the first and second rounds of the playoffs with the understanding the bid would be considered for the next round should the Eagles advance in the playoffs. The submission was not accepted by the NCAA for the quarterfinals and Georgia Southern will travel to Wofford.”
Hamilton said that the university did request to submit a bid after the Eagles 41-16 win over South Carolina State in the first round of the FCS playoffs on November 27.
The November 12 deadline fell less than one week after the Eagles 21-14 overtime win over No. 1 Appalachian State. The game marked the beginning of the Eagles’ current five-game win streak that has lasted through the playoffs.
Hamilton added that the deadline for bids for all rounds of the playoffs was November 12. The Eagles travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face the Wofford Terriers this weekend.

Good news is you don't have to worry about him messing you up for the next round if you beat Wofford; he can't. Either you get Delaware, which has the home game guaranteed, or you get UNH, and I'd be surprised if UNH could bid enough for a home game to offset their facilities (no smack, just saying), especially since its on TV.

How new is this guy? Seriously, with as much playoff experience as GSU has, how could he not know this?

He's been at GSU since the mid-90s. He probably just thought we'd have no shot at getting past the first round.CatMom wrote:How new is this guy? Seriously, with as much playoff experience as GSU has, how could he not know this?

Great when Sam Baker, your GaSo AD, doesn't have enough faith in your football team. What a guy.

Re: Wofford outbid GSU?
I would assume that if UNH placed the minimum bid and GSU did not that UNH would by default host the semi final game. Can any of the GSU people confirm that there was or was not a GSU bid to host the semis?mcveyrl wrote:Wow. So does this mean they will travel to UNH if that scenario falls into place??
Re: Wofford outbid GSU?
It's all assumptions, but one would think that since we didn't bid for the 3rd round I doubt we put one in for the semi's. We're all praying UNH didn't submit a bid either.AssKickinChicken wrote:I would assume that if UNH placed the minimum bid and GSU did not that UNH would by default host the semi final game. Well, now the so hopefully something will be done about the AD's blatant incompetence very very soon.

WOW! That's a fokton of gate revenue you're AD left on the table during crappy economic times. I like GaSouth's chances for packing out a home stadium for a playoff game better than Wofford's (no smack intended)...Baldy wrote:It's all assumptions, but one would think that since we didn't bid for the 3rd round I doubt we put one in for the semi's. Re: Wofford outbid GSU?
Epic fail no doubt and when you factor in the APR mess, the situation with Rusty Russell which led to Erk being estranged from the program, Brian Van Gorder, the academic fraud in the hoops program, the player retention issues under the Hatcher regime, and the gigantic failure of the AD to drum up a larger donor base, there can be only one acceptable outcome- termination.
It is time for Scott Farmer to come home and fix our mess.

So if neither placed a bid do they just hold it at the other semi-final site? Disqualify both teams and make the other semi-final the NC game?Baldy wrote:It's all assumptions, but one would think that since we didn't bid for the 3rd round I doubt we put one in for the semi's. In all seriousness, does anybody know what they do in that situation? If you don't bid, then you aren't guaranteeing any money. The NCAA won't let you host without guaranteeing any money. You would think they would re-open the bidding processs, but who knows.

Has anyone asked... why wouldn't you submit a bid for every game as soon as you can? Is there some sort of non-refundable deposit?
