I said last night that the better team won. I don't need to save face and I don't need any excuses. UD lost fair and square - and the missed EP had nothing to do with it.
My bad. It wasn't addressed to you personally, Hen, but to the Delaware coaches and fans who want to think that the game was decided on that spot. Yourself, Hen, you have been right out there after the game and even today, and that itself is something that I admire and respect.
Thanks. :thumb:

For years, the conversation had been dominated about the "Big Fluff" as being just Montana and the rest. This year, a member of the Fluff not named Montana just took down the two best teams from the mighty CAA and won the championship. Pardon all of us for not relishing in this moment. Now, maybe we all can cut the "Fluff" talk.

You probably realize this but I can see that some don't so I'm quoting you my man as a launchpad. There are a few CAA fans that have been outspoken and verbose and have attached themselves to any good from the CAA via any team from the CAA. 89hen is front & center with other minions following his lead. Sure they deserve to be slapped down a little over it because it did not hold up this time for them in spite of the stacked deck they played from.

I totally get that. They found a scab and picked at it for a long time. Some of us have let ourselves be directed (me included at time) by what they say they believe. No big deal, it serves to drive many, many discussions.

Fact is though that guys like BH86, 93hen, and several others are expected to shoulder the schadenfreude when they were not the ones distributing that horse shit.

Ahh, I don't even remember where I was going with this so fuck it.

Thanks. I understand that people want to have fun at UD and the CAA's expense. Just put it on the smack forum, that is what it is for.

This is true, and Baldwin even stated as much in the post-game interview when they received the trophy. For those of you that missed it, he also stated that it was as big a win for the Big Sky Conference as for EWU and went on to give props to Montana. I loved that shit. :thumb:

Not sure if they still have it on ESPN3.COM, but I heard it too in his post game interview on the ESPN3.COM post game show.

Congrats EWU, and Keeler, try losing like a man, I expected better from him.
Had nothing to do with the refs. Hard to believe at the time but the game was decided on the blocked extra point after Delaware's first touchdown. Hens make that, the game is tied. You never know what little plays in the first quarter will decide the game. Missing extra points are like missing free throws in basketball.

Best team won. :thumb:
Wrong. If UD makes that XP, then EWU doesn't later go for 2, which they don't get, and just kick the xp instead, and still win by 1, 21-20. That missed XP ended up having no difference in the outcome.

Actually, EWU took down the #4 and then #2 teams from the CAA regular season as far the league standings go. UD and Nova were probably the 2 best teams though, at least late Nov-Dec. Carry on..

How interesting...

I don't seem to remember Keeler complaining about the personal foul call on GSU's Derek Heyden that gift wrapped UD's first TD in the semi finals or the laughable intentional grounding call that killed a GSU drive in the second quarter of the same game.

Memo to Keeler: Score more points and you don't have to worry about one call, and yes, when you call out the officials after your team blows a 19 point lead in 18 minutes it shows ZERO class.

Well, apparently you have a good handle on losing with zero class. So what if they called the personal foul Heyden - it was either that or call the guy for pass interference on the same play. The call would've been different but the result the same. And the intentional grounding was legit - you can't stand in the pocket and intentionall throw the ball out of bounds, especially with no receiver in the area and not past the line of scrimmage. The fact that you're whining about those calls (both first half calls) of a game that happened weeks ago, while mocking a blantanly wrong measurement call late in the 4th, for a game three days, speaks volumes.

Memo to you - stop the other team from running the ball all over you in the second half rather than blaming the officials for two random calls early in the game.

I dunno. Reading through the game thread, many posters (not UD fans) made the comment that the whole farcical episode of the spot, the measurement, the re-spot, and the re-measurement while guessing where the sticks should be by the stellar SoCon crew was completely bush-league. And it's not like the bad calls in the GSU-DE game had any more impact on the outcome of a comfortable victory than the atrocious officiating at the 2007 NCG did on the outcome of a comfortable victory, but the episode on Friday was different; it was the ballgame. Get it right and UD burns the clock and hoists the trophy.

No biggie though. I'm over it. We still had a chance to win the game and came up short.

I'm obviously no fan of Keeler but I'm not going to kick him while he's down. IMO, the spot of the ball was incorrect. Human error is part of the game and you deal with it. Once they moved the chains, it was too late to effectively review the spot. They should have stated that the ruling on the field stands and moved on. Re-spotting and trying to reset the chains was going to turn into a circus and the coach of the team that came up on the bad side of the call was going to be furious. In this case it was Keeler. As 86 and other Hen fans have graciously stated, the Hens had plenty of opportunities after that call to win the game and they didn't. Yes Keeler could have handled things a little differently but I don't blame him for being upset.

If Keeler hadn't been upset and shown a little emotion, people would have berated him for being an unemotional twat. It's a lose-lose sometimes, but not all the time, although in this case you can clearly see that half the time that assessment is almost correct.

The difference between me (51 YO VP of a mortgage lender posting on a message board under an anonymous handle) and the coach of a defeated team whining about calls is the point. I can whine all I want (although I challenge anybody to point out where I blamed the officiating for GSU's defeat to UD) and it affects nobody and in no way paints my employer (who happens to be me and two other partners) in any bad light. In short, nobody gives a shit what I say nor should they.

Keeler on the other hand, is a head coach of a university and should remember that when you point a finger at somebody (in this case officials) there are three pointing back at you, which in this case is blowing a three score lead in 18 minutes of play- which could easily be labeled a choke. He comes off as a crybaby for even going there, no other way to spin it. He is also a less than effective representative of the university when he seeks excuses like this instead of congratulating the opponent and pointing out his own teams shortcomings.

As for the two calls in the GSU/UD semifinal, they were terrible but UD was the better team that day and won. The point is that the calls tend to even out over time and Keeler never criticized the officiating when the marginal calls went in his favor, and I don't seem to remember any of the coaches who lost to UD in the playoffs calling out the officials.

Nevertheless, Keeler's crying in no way takes any thing away from what EWU did through their playoff run. They are a deserving champion and played some good- and really exciting- football during their run. Congratulations to them.
