Well, Keeler has complained about plenty of calls before so I don't see that this is any different. And really, what coach anywhere complains about calls that go in his favor? Really, any examples? And Keeler hasn't placed the whole blame for the loss on that one call - it was a huge call and very likely a call that was just flat out blown, but he said in post game interviews that UD had plenty more chances to win the game outside of that call. And he congratulated EWU on a great game. Really, you're impression of him and how he's handled himself seems to be made up entirely of snippets here and there without the greater context. Just saying.blueballs wrote:The difference between me (51 YO VP of a mortgage lender posting on a message board under an anonymous handle) and the coach of a defeated team whining about calls is the point. I can whine all I want (although I challenge anybody to point out where I blamed the officiating for GSU's defeat to UD) and it affects nobody and in no way paints my employer (who happens to be me and two other partners) in any bad light. In short, nobody gives a **** what I say nor should they.GannonFan wrote:
Well, apparently you have a good handle on losing with zero class. So what if they called the personal foul Heyden - it was either that or call the guy for pass interference on the same play. The call would've been different but the result the same. And the intentional grounding was legit - you can't stand in the pocket and intentionall throw the ball out of bounds, especially with no receiver in the area and not past the line of scrimmage. The fact that you're whining about those calls (both first half calls) of a game that happened weeks ago, while mocking a blantanly wrong measurement call late in the 4th, for a game three days, speaks volumes.
Memo to you - stop the other team from running the ball all over you in the second half rather than blaming the officials for two random calls early in the game.
Keeler on the other hand, is a head coach of a university and should remember that when you point a finger at somebody (in this case officials) there are three pointing back at you, which in this case is blowing a three score lead in 18 minutes of play- which could easily be labeled a choke. He comes off as a crybaby for even going there, no other way to spin it. He is also a less than effective representative of the university when he seeks excuses like this instead of congratulating the opponent and pointing out his own teams shortcomings.
As for the two calls in the GSU/UD semifinal, they were terrible but UD was the better team that day and won. The point is that the calls tend to even out over time and Keeler never criticized the officiating when the marginal calls went in his favor, and I don't seem to remember any of the coaches who lost to UD in the playoffs calling out the officials.
Nevertheless, Keeler's crying in no way takes any thing away from what EWU did through their playoff run. They are a deserving champion and played some good- and really exciting- football during their run. Congratulations to them.

I think the spot was off and then when it was corrected they were unable to reset the chains to the original position. No doubt in my mind that EWU was stopped on that 4th down try.. but that was NOT the reason UD lost the game. The spot may have been off.. but it was too close to really bitch about and regardless.. UD had many other chances to win the game. The fact is that when the momentum swung big time to EWU.. they made the big plays and UD did not. The officals may have screwed up the spot on that key 4th down.. but that wasn't the reason UD lost.. the Hens had many other opportunities to win the game and couldn't get it done. EWU had far fewer chances.. but made the most of their opportunities.kalm wrote:I watched the game last night and it was indeed close. Thanks. After watching that, I'd say he handled it fine in the interview. What's he supposed to do when he thinks he's been jobbed and is asked about it ? He said Eastern was a great team and was very controlled and measured in his responses.93henfan wrote:kalm wrote:BTW, anyone have a clip of Keeler's post game comments?

That being said, when I watched the game on TV I was paying close attention and I'm pretty sure Keeler was wrong about the chain originally being past the 22. I think it was right at the 22 - which would mean a first down.
Damn, I guess this means I'm going to have to watch it again.
Re: Keeler "wines" like a little girl
Watching it on DVR, and with no dog in the fight, I agree with your assessment, The chains and the orange marker were at the line of the 22. The ball's nose was over the chalk. It was a first down by the nose of the ball.kalm wrote:Thanks. After watching that, I'd say he handled it fine in the interview. I do have a dog in the fight, but you are mistaken. The original marker was clearly on the inside edge of the 22. When they respot it, the marker moved to the outside edge of the 22. It's harder to see the respot but the 22 hash is between #3's leg and the marker. This is pretty irrefutable.ToTheLeft wrote:The chains and the orange marker were at the line of the 22. BUT LET'S BE CLEAR ABOUT THIS... this is only for the sake of this arguement. This didn't cost UD the game. They did that themselves.
Re: Keeler "wines" like a little girl
Per someone on the sideline I won't name, the head official apologized to KC between the 1st and 2nd review and said the crew blew this one. And 89 has it right; the play should not have mattered at that point.89Hen wrote:I do have a dog in the fight, but you are mistaken. The original marker was clearly on the inside edge of the 22. GrizFoo wrote:No kidding, ****, they respotted the ball to where those reviewing advised. The Hens should have stopped EWU after that failure, but they couldn't. Better team yesterday won, and thats what counts. Refs are part of the game, if you bitch about that call, then you have to bitch about all of them.
Congrats EWU, and Keeler, try losing like a man, I expected better from him.
First of all...that was a mjor, major screw up. Had this been in the BCS title game people would be screaming about this at the top of their lungs. What is KC suppose to say? "No that didn't have an impact on the outcome of the game?" It was fourth and one and they stopped EWU. After reviewing the play the next day the NCAA agreed with Keeler that they had in fact stopped them. You can argue that it never should have gotten to that point...you certainly can't argue that it wa sthe correct call...or that with the time remaining and the field position we would have had that the course of the game and Mojo wouldn't have changed.
As far as the best team winning...did you watch that game? I will tip my hat EWU...they came back, the never gave up, and they did that without Jones which if there is an arguement about the final outcome it's that they played without their best player...but UD absolutely was the best team that night...they just weren't the most composed team...make no mistake though...they did stop them...it was taken from them.
KC has his faults...but after stating his case about the call...and understandably so...he had nothing but great things to say about EWU, their players, and their coach...he in fact said "Shame on us for not finishing the game..."
It's a dumb thread

The real problem was the wrong ref spotted the ball. The ref from the Blue Hen sideline was blocked by players and made the spot while the ref on the near sideline actually had the right call but wasn't assertive enough.jd of de wrote:Per someone on the sideline I won't name, the head official apologized to KC between the 1st and 2nd review and said the crew blew this one. Being the champs has nothing to do with being the best team on the field, you just have to win 4 (or now potentially 5 if you're in the opening round) games in the playoffs. Who the "best" team is is the province of message board banter.kalm wrote:We weren't the best team on the field most of the year.HenZoneNation wrote:

Kalm,
Tried to send you a message...didn't go through...
I think EWU, especially in the last two games without Jones did just an incredible job. I thought your coach and your team was ultra classy. I hate to see people slam KC for simply being upset about a call that he's right about and that cost us the NC....
That being said...EWU is a great representative of the FCS...I also really enjoy your opinion on your team and the game...here's hoping we meet up again next year....and we win...
EWU...enjoy the win...that's a scary offense you have next year.
