I've said PSU's stadium sucks for years.

Dude, I read what you said and I didn't get it either. The conveyance just wasn't there if your point was the choice of a bad day to have it. I agree with that but there isn't a lot that can be done about that it appears. FCS will just have to rely on it's own fan base to fill the park if they are ever gonna do it there it appears.Willie wrote:Did I say the stadium sucked? Fuck people, read for a change. All I was referring to was that soccer fields and football fields are a lot different.
It may have been a great site, but the worst day they could pick to play.

The visitors sideline is a pretty good stretch over to the side line and the old turf was bad but it's a pretty decent place to watch a game. The sightlines are pretty good, the location is fun for after game activities and so forth. I think with the improvements they are making for the soccer or whatever it is are gonna make that place a great one for PSU games.Willie wrote:I've said PSU's stadium sucks for years.

Oh, and they also sell beer in the stadium so that makes it pretty good too.

Other than the parking and the turf it's a very unique and cool place to watch a game. It's not that often you have a city skyline as a backdrop for a DI college football stadium - especially out west.Ursus A. Yeah and the parking really isn't a problem if you are staying in Portland and not just driving in for the game cuz you can take that Rose City Trolley or whatever it is that drops you right in front of the game from most areas of the city I think. The tailgating before the game was also very cool. Kind of a street fair type thing that as you say adds the very unique experience of it all.kalm wrote:Other than the parking and the turf it's a very unique and cool place to watch a game. I don't know if Willie has been there because I do not think you would say that place "sucks" if you had been. It's actually very cool.

I have been to PGE. We played in a regional baseball tournament there when I was 13.

Well as I said with the old turf it may not have been real cool to play on.Willie wrote:I have been to PGE. We played in a regional baseball tournament there when I was 13.

Agree with 93Hen and will add:
1) The top 15 rows of Section 126 was 1/2 filled with people wearing NCAA/FCS logos; that was it for locals.
2) Agree with the video (lack of stats) and audio upgrades the place needs.
3) Generally it was a easy in and easy out of the parking lots for most. I got stuck 2 cars from making a clean break but ended up having to wait 20 minutes for the VP motorcade to go in and out. Not every NC game will have the secret service there.
4) I did overhear a couple of NCAA types taking about the large UD tailgate crowd. They were not expecting it from what I gathered.
5) I got my tickets thru StubHub .... Section 125 (42 yd line), row 15 and the seats were perfect. Glad I popped for the extra $15 over face value.
6) The area near the stadium is loaded the good, big bars and all the Frisco people we came across were happy we were there.
7) I'd still rather drive to Chatty than fly to Frisco, but the 50-something temp at kickoff was rather nice.
The EWU fans were gracious in victory; a good lot the ones we talked to before and after. They represented there school well as I thought UD fans did in defeat.

BTW, very little difference between purpose-built soccer stadiums and a regular football field. Main difference is that soccer fields are generally 10-20 yards wider.

Re: Photos from the NC game
From a "local" perspective,
My Aunt/Uncle live and work in Frisco. They said that all of the hotels were booked and that there was a buzz around town leading up to the game. For what it is worth, they kept running into people that they knew as we walked around the stadium.
They really couldn't understand the Friday night 6pm start time. It didn't lend itself to local support because Frisco is a bedroom community and most of its residents travel down the tollway to Dallas (or the MidCities) for work. It is not uncommon to have an hour long commute (especially during rush hour traffic). As bad as it sounds, it is hard to convince someone (especially the Corporate HQ-worker bees) to take a vacation day just after Christmas so they can see a football game that they have no vested interest in. If you get off work at 5 (or even duck out early at 4), you have to fight traffic to get home, miss the tailgate, and MAYBE make kickoff.
If the game had a 7:30 start time, you might have seen a better turn out. If they had it on Saturday, I have no doubt that you would have seen a better turnout.
We had tickets on the EWU side of the stadium. I made sure that everyone in my group knew who was playing and I told them to pick a team. I gave them the mascot and color choice and everyone came in Blue, Gold, Red, or Black. Personally, I went the Red/Black route with a little bit of Texas State.
Everyone in my group was happy with the game. We had a great time, and will buy more tickets next year. I never ran into any problems with the bathroom lines and the food lines didn't seem terrible on the EWU side. I ate at Tailgate so I wasn't hungry. My only complaint was the absence of beer inside the stadium. Supposedly you could buy it in the luxury suites and across the street at one of the bars (but then you couldn't reenter)

I always just bought an extra set of tickets in Chatty so I could go out to the Cricket Pavillion and re-enter the game after 1/2 time. That is SOP at the NC game wherever it is held.

That guy had a UD flag because they announced he was either a UD grad or was from the state of DE.

Not so fast. What idiot designs a canopy over the seats on the south side of a stadium preventing the sun to shine on the turf? I have no doubt that the grass in the shade is weak and the ground is always wet.Grizalltheway wrote:Yeah, those soccer playing pussies have no idea how to build stadiums.Willie wrote: Wasn't it built for soccer?
