I'd absolutely love it if App and/or the other GSU came to the CAA, it'd definitely help out Georgia State (it seem so alone out there, football wise). But I'm not sure if we can rope them in depending on if they get invites to the FBS or how the CAA wants to handle their invitations from now on (aka, All Sports vs Football Only).Pwns wrote:I guess the CAA doesn't want Appy or the real GSU because they think we're both headed to FBS soon?

Actually, one would think the Ohio Valley Conference would feature a school from the actual state of Ohio, wouldn't one?

I would consider Youngstown more in the Great Lakes than the Ohio Valley... That is just me. I have never heard anyone ever in Youngstown, Akron, or Cleveland identify themselves with the Ohio Valley.Keeper wrote:Actually, one would think the Ohio Valley Conference would feature a school from the actual state of Ohio, wouldn't one?
Take the drive from Youngstown down to the Ohio River and you would know we aren't in that valley. We are in our own Valley, the Mahoning Valley!

Looking at information about the Mahoning River watershed on the ysu.edu site, I saw this quote:guinzone wrote:I would consider Youngstown more in the Great Lakes than the Ohio Valley... From a geographic point of view, Youngstown is definitely in the Ohio River watershed. And playing around with Mapquest, it looks like 40 miles or so from Youngstown to the Ohio River near East Liverpool, Ohio. YSU might be closer to the Ohio River than all the schools in the OVC who are in the Tennessee River watershed. Shoot, Southern Illinois isn't that far from the Ohio River either, just on the edge of the Ohio watershed, significantly closer than to the Missouri River. Eastern Illinois also appears to be just inside the Ohio watershed. Indiana State and Evansville are definitely within the Ohio watershed. None are closer to the Missouri River.
But no worries, I think YSU should be in the MAC with their Buckeye brethren Akron, Kent, Ohio U, Miami, Bowling Green and Toledo. That's what really doesn't make sense!

I always considered Youngstown the bastard orphan child of Western Pennsylvania.

From the picture/graph I found, only Jacksonville State is a considerable distance away from the Ohio River Valley. It looks to me the rest either fall in it, are in northern Tennessee and close to it or are reasonably close to it in IllinoisUNH_Alum_In_CT wrote:Looking at information about the Mahoning River watershed on the ysu.edu site, I saw this quote:guinzone wrote: I would consider Youngstown more in the Great Lakes than the Ohio Valley... Getting back to YSU to the CAA...
As a MO State fan, I can't say I care either way.
Re: YSU to the CAA???
FWIW I found this...it seems that YSU is squarley in the Ohio River Valley....and not even close to the Missouri River valley....
Then again a lot of the MVC and MVFC teams aren't really in the Missouri River valley either, but aren't *too far* away.

I for one would welcome Youngstown st. With open arms. We had a very good rivalry with them for a short while and I think it would be great to renew it. It would be a lot more fun than beating up on Delaware state and west chester every year
