Armanti Edwards the worst pick 2010 draft?

Post by GRIZ MOBSTER »

One site says so. Ouch? However they got the date wrong and said he was drafted in the 2011 draft, so maybe they don't know jack. Hopefully he will turn it around this year.

It's WAY too soon to make that call. And that's ESPECIALLY because the Panthers have been too busy slashing him like the Steelers did with Kordell Stewart. Edwards hasn't had any extended time in one position to prove his worth there. He hasn't been around long enough to call him Sam Bowie.

Clausen was a much worse choice than Edwards. Armanti has the natual God given talent to play at QB, RB or WR. Clausen is like a fucking giraffe, and can't throw worth a shit.

This is not true. I know for a fact Dallas had the worst pick in the '10 draft when they took CB Jamar Wall out of Texas Tech.

It appears last year that the Panthers drafted a college QB and tried to teach him 3 WR positions, plus punt and kickoff returns, plus a little wildcat QB thrown in. AE arrives at camp not conditioned physically to play WR at the NFL level (can you say doghouse), and you have a head coach that is uncreative and a lame duck with an agenda against team front office mangement. It was a perfect storm for failure with AE and the coaching staff sharing the blame. AE will have no excuses this year as he knows what is expected and required to play WR in the NFL and has a new coaching staff that will play the players that give them the best chance to win games. WR isn't exactly a loaded position on the Panthers currently so the oportunity is there. :coffee:

We'll know how this pick rates by around December if there is an NFL season. AE should be about .02 seconds faster without the dreadlocks weighing him down too.

On the subject of Appies being drafted Edwards isn't a bad a pick as Tampa drafting Dexter Jackson a couple of years ago. That one was straight up braindead.

I love "The Blur" but the only reason for his high pick was his incredible 40 time and the great game he had against Michigan. He dropped too many balls and ran mostly fly or deep post patterns in college so I question the high pick. I thought he would become a very good punt/kick returner but that didn't pan out either, but you wouldn't draft him in the 2nd round just to return punts. I think he discovered that NFL contact is quite different than SoCon contact too, especially on kickoff returns....no shame in that either.

Hopefully he catches on with an NFL team this year as the dude can still flat out fly.

Sam Bowie...now that is a throw back.

Ralph Sampson, Sam Bowie, Hakeen Olajuwan and Patrick Ewing. Good times...when they were healthy.

Wasnt Sam Bowie drafted higher than Michael Jordan that year? or was it traded for Michael? Either way, Portland got juiced in that deal. I was at that final four of Hakeem vs Ewing.

Not trying to derail the thread, but great athletes find a way to make the field and get the playing time. Armanti is capable of finding to way to find out how to get on the field.

At least Edwards has a chance to play somewhere on the field in 2011 (assuming the NFL has a season of course  ). The Panthers' sixth round pick from 2010, QB Tony Pike, was 6 for 12 for 47 yards last year, and will now sit on the bench as the #3 QB. I'd wager Pike is more of a wasted pick than Edwards could ever be.

They were saying Armanti was the worst pick, because in order for the Panthers to get Armanti in 2010, they had to give up a 2011 draft pick.

Bowie went #2, Jordan went #3. In a nutshell, Portland did not need another 2 guard as they had Drexler from the year before. They did need a center and Bowie was considered #2 center behind Hakeem.

My opinion (getting back on topic), it is WAY too soon to figure who was a boom or bust from last year's draft. At one time, Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf were considered too close to call. History has a tendency to make this call fairly evident.

The people over at Carolina Huddle have been on his case since he was drafted last year. Hell, they're still blaming him for last season's record and the draft pick NE received this year. It's been painful to read at times.

I think he'll get a real shot this year to show his skills on the field, and I think he'll shine. :thumb:

How in heck could Armanti Edwards be the worst draft pick. Did you idjuts see Clausen play at QB, he has to be the worst player ever, and worst draft pick last year.
Armanti complete 100% of his NFL passes. Averaged almost 8 yards per run. Had the top passing percentage of all NFL QB's.

True ...he didn''t play much, but that was Fox being a child about playing him because he wasn't Fox's draft pick.

Armanti Edwards is too good an athlete not to get on the field. A year to learn a new position will make his speed a nice addition for the panthers. Too bad nobody on their roster can get him the ball. Clausen sucks and cam newton will never be able to read nfl defenses. I think he is more of a wasted pick than Edwards considering what the panthers are going to end up paying him. Maybe newton can end up playing tight end or running back. In my opinion he can only read half the field and never went thru his progressions because he would pull the ball down and run. Good luck with that in the nfl.

We all know that Armanti is a playmaker. It is not so much that Panthers drafted him in the second round but they traded up to get him. I still think he is the best QB on their roster.

You'd actually tag Clausen as worse than Ryan Leaf?

Agreed. I'd have to flip a coin to decide between THOSE two.

Dieter Brock was a HORRIBLE pickup for the Rams, but he doesn't qualify here because he wasn't a draft pick; he came in as a free agent signing from Canada.

I have a good friend who works for the Panthers and has been a friend to the Richardson's for many years. He said that Fox had a personal beef with Edwards since he wanted to draft someone else in that position. He knew he was out the door anyway so he did all he could to stick it to the front office. We pretty much knew this was the case, but it carries a little more weight coming from someone in the orginization.

that's madness.. you're comparing a sixth round pick to a third round pick that a terrible team gave up a second round pick to get. apples and oranges.

Edwards was a very bad pick, i don't know if you can dispute that. great college player, not a pro.. simple as that. he's too brittle and doesn't have a pro position.
