Well, then I guess you can take out teams like Nova, Rich, JMU, UMass, or even Sac st, as they are all teams that had 5 losses last year. So they obviously have no chance to be good either.

The UNI defense overcame one of the most Jekyll/Hyde offenses I have ever witnessed. The defense kept the team in every game other than

1. Iowa State game - that game made Napoleon's retreat from Moscow seem as well executed as the Osama bin Laden raid
2. Western Illinois - a "meaningless game" as we had won the AQ tiebreakers before the game started. QB Rennie plays, gets a leg/knee injury, which contributes (not causes) lackluster performance to Leigh.

Last year was a complete rebuild year. UNI fans will tell you (if they are honest) the team exceeded beginning of the season expectations. Winning the conference was great given the absolute cluster f*** surrounding the QB situation last year. That and replacing the O-line.

This year I would say most people are counting on 8-9 wins before the playoffs. Probable loss to Iowa State, and one or two losses out of the following matches : Southern Illinois (if the school is still open on 10/22), SDSU, NDSU and Southern Utah.

Ga. Southern was "GSC" until 1990 when it acheived "University" status. So Georgia St. was "GSU" first...

As much as I'd love to see Sac in front of Montana at the end of the year, I don't think we're even CLOSE to that yet. We gotta beat the Griz first. That's something we've NEVER done. I think we have a pretty good shot at it, but we won't know until the game is played.

I was really surprised how a mediocre NDSU team did so well in the playoffs last year. They are not a top 20 team, might not be a top 4 in the MVFC. The conference will probably be a more experience soft conference this year. UNI should be a 10-20 ranked team, they have by far the best QB and RB in the league. Not sure I see anything else in the Valley that should be rated.

Not sure I see anything else in the Valley that should be rated.

Yes and no - the expanded field is a little more forgiving or early season slip-ups. Every year under the old system it seemed like there was a 7-4 team that got left out that finished on a long win streak and would be real trouble if they got in. I think it was huge for a first time play off team that was one of, if not the, last teams into the bracket to get a first round home game against an over-matched opponent. Normally the last team in would face the strongest of the non-bye teams. So in those respects I think that things were set up to have a good run and I'm not surprised the Bison showed well. I was surprised at the ease with which they handled MSU and they did a good job of keeping close to an EWU team that could have run away from them with a couple of different bounces.

I think 15 is a good starting ranking for UNI and that they have top 10 potential. I would rank NDSU at 23rd before I would put ISU there, bless their hearts and best of luck to them, and I could see them as high as 18 just for finishing strong.

MSU was leading that game 17-14 earlyl in the 4th quarter and was down 21-17 with six minutes to go. I'd hardly say they handled them "with ease", although once NDSU scored at 5:28 on a 38 yard TD run to go up 28-17 it appeared to me that the Bobcats basically quit.
