THE DAKOTA BIG 3

There are hundreds if not thousands of people that recognize the competition between NDSU and SDSU as the game that decides the Best College Football Team in the Dakotas. The Dakota Big 3 includes USD and SDSU doesnt like that.

I didn't read the whole thread, but is there a new travelling trophy for the FCS Dakota schools? IMO, this would be a great idea and could be done instead or in addition to the Dakota marker. I've long advocated for a sponsored trophy for Idaho State and Weber State, one that would reflect the rich railroad tradition in this area. The only problem in deciding how to crown a Dakota FCS champion is North Dakota; how do you include Big Sky North Dakota when they may only play 1 (maybe 2) against the other 3 schools? Winning percentage?

Anyway, great idea... get it started.

Thank you Sir!!! That is exactly what this thread is about. Starting a trophy in addition to the Border Marker that would honor the winner of the annual round robin in football for the Dakota schools in the MVFC that make up the Dakota Big 3: NDSU, SDSU and USD.

A constitutional error recently discovered shows that North Dakota has never technically fit the requirements for statehood.
John Rolczynski, an 82-year old Grand Forks resident, discovered the error in 1995 and has been been campaigning to fix North Dakota's constitution ever since. The problem lies in the state constitution's omission in requiring the governor and other top officials to take an oath of office. In failing to require these oaths, North Dakota's constitution is at odds with federal requirements established by Article VI of the U.S. Constitution, therefore making statehood illegitimate.

In the meantime North Dakota may join Minnesota as a state in idea only.

Either one would be appropriate in this case because the Dakota Big 3 dont have the history of discrimination we find at UND. Of course if we used the Sioux imagery we would have to get the signatures but that would be a cinch.

The Norse Trophy or Trophy of the Nordics? We could have a viking ship and call it the Fighting Norsemen Trophy.

the Sioux Trophy though could be good. Its an iconic symbol for both states. It has some name recognition from its use on the now disgraced Nickel Trophy and would naturally be accepted by the Tribes.

The thing is, this trophy has to trascend school identity. Its about the entire Territory, the States of North and South Dakota. Im still liking Mt. Rushmore on one side and "Rough Rider" Teddy Roosevelt on the other. Teddy is an icon in both states and it could be called the Rough Rider Trophy.

When A South Dakota School wins the trophy would be placed in the capital building in Pierre with Mt. Rushmore proudly displayed. Otherwise its in Bismarck with the Rough Rider side. Maybe a statue of TR could be holding up a fancy plaque with the images on either side with the words BULLY on it somewhere?

Of course Im having a little fun. Who couldnt with all of these jokers around, but your first take was correct. Its a title, a competition worthy of a trophy, state recognition and naming rights. This is about the Dakotas, the legacy in college football, the camaraderie among members, pride, bragging rights and a whole lot of fun. The Dakota Big 3: NDSU, SDSU and USD!!!

The Rough Rider or Fighting Sioux Trophy would be fine with me.

Apparently the glitch has been smoothed out and statehood for North Dakota is assured. Besides all the counties except 1 have commercial reserves of oil and gas.
