Yeah, I'm surprised they picked UNC last. We have some talent even without Jace. We have depth at that position.SDHornet wrote:Shocker. I was looking over some UNC numbers today and they have potential. Unless I am wrong (strong possibility here), UNC returns 4 starting OL and a solid QB in Orms. If Jace Davis wasn't ineligible (this is still the case correct?), UNC would have some pretty solid weapons and would have the potential at having a formidable aerial attack. I haven't looked at their defense yet so maybe there are lots of holes there. I know UNC struggled with the run both on offense and defense last season and their top 2 rushers graduated.Silenoz wrote: Dead last it looks like, right below ISU and Weber grills

Re: Phil Steele mag arrived today
An absolutely terrific job done by Phil Steele and his staff. This magazine has more information and recent history as any preview magazine I have ever seen. It will take even the most hardy reader a while to go thru and digest all the numbers in this magazine. An A+ from this fas fan.

FAS? is that one step above FBS, and two steps above FCS?easterntennhen wrote:An A+ from this fas fan.
of course, going the other direction brings us to FDS.....

Mine has yet to arrive as well. If it doesn't come tomorrow, I'm going to Rich's Cigar and News to buy one off the shelf.

I’m still waiting on mine. What’s worse is I thought is came on Thursday as I saw a thick magazine in the mailbox. So naturally I got giddy with excitement…only to find out it was a fucking IKEA catalog.mtgrizfan4life wrote:I am still waiting for my copy........this sucks waiting. Anyone else still waiting?

Re: Phil Steele mag arrived today
After a second look I think the last place finish is warranted. You guys lose a good part of your LB's along with a couple of starters in the secondary. Add the fact that UNC is transitioning into a new coaching staff and the historical success of the Bears and I understand why UNC was picked to finish last. One thing is for certain, I am having a very hard time making win-loss predictions for the bottom teams in the BSC.BigSkyBears wrote:Yeah, I'm surprised they picked UNC last. Mine just came today (Saturday), LD. Thinking yours should be coming today as well if you are still in Portland.LDopaPDX wrote:Mine has yet to arrive as well. If it doesn't come tomorrow, I'm going to Rich's Cigar and News to buy one off the shelf.
That said, I'm glad Steele is held in such high regard around here. If I was to come on here and talk about PSU being #5 in the Big Sky, I would be run off so quickly as a "homer". While both Kavanaugh and Hubel have had some good conference games, in order to win in the conference you need consistency at the quarterback and neither one has come close at all. A good game by either one is usually followed by a terrible game, or one marked by some type of injury. Also, nothing I saw during spring ball convinced me that we are a mid-pack Big Sky team, and our schedule will not even prepare us to face Jesuit High School, let alone the Big Sky. Fall ball starts Monday and we need strong improvement pretty much everywhere.

YES.......I got it today. What a nice read, and experience to have a magazine entirely dedicated to FCS football.
Thank you, Phil Steele. I look forward to reading this every year, and cannot wait to see the gradual improvement in this publication.

Got mine yesterday. Awesome magazine. Many of the statistics can be obtained elsewhere but it's nice to have then together in one volume for reference during the season.

Re: Phil Steele mag arrived today
Lots of returning talent, yes........and losing Jones and Sherritt will surely hurt. But I am confident that Zach Johnson will pick up JC's productivity this season, kid's a beast. And players like Jones are one of a kind. We were discussing on our board that the player we may really miss the most this year is one that's not talked about a lot. Jesse Hoffman, one of 2 starting corners we lost. Dude's a great athlete.....very solid corner and kick returner (ask NDSU) and still holds some Washington State rushing records. Recently signed as a FA with the Seahawks.SDHornet wrote:And yet EWU is still stacked on both sides of the ball.BigSkyBears wrote:

Re: Phil Steele mag arrived today
Whats up with Phil putting stony brook at number 15?? Anybody else find that peculiar? With that bieng said I have no problem with where he has NDSU at.......I think they should be in that 15-20 range.
Re: Phil Steele mag arrived today
About Stony Brook, somewhere I heard his process is that the top 20 are who he believes will make the playoffs. But if so, then where is the NEC?

And that's just stupid. If it's a "playoff" poll, he should annotate it as such. Otherwise, he should rank the best 25 teams in the country.urmite wrote:About Stony Brook, somewhere I heard his process is that the top 20 are who he believes will make the playoffs. But if so, then where is the NEC?
