Worst kept secret in the FCS. Now the GWFC needs San Diego or another D-II school to become a real conference in the eyes of the NCAA

Any chance that Western or Central Washington would venture to Division I?

I doubt any time soon. They are set to play in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in 2008.

Central Washington? Ellensburg? Nobody lives out there and it stinks, doubt central goes anywhere.

Central might be on the other side of the mountains from Seattle, but it's still only about an hour away. I don't know if Western or Central Washington could come up with the funding to move up but both are in decent locations for recruiting.

CWU is 4 hours away from Seattle, and 2 hours from my place here in Wenatchee. Very small and smelly town. WW would have a better shot.

CWU did beat EWU last year, big upset. But their coach just left them.

According to Mapquest it is a 2 hour trip from CWU to Seattle, but I know I made the trip in under an hour and a half. I have driven into Seattle from that direction twice and even driving a moving truck it didn't take 2 hours. I am not sure how it could take somebody 4 hours to go 110 miles during regular drive times, but I don't want to be in that traffic.

Vermillion, S.D. only has about 10,000 people so it's about 1/3 smaller than Ellensburg and is also pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I haven't been there so I can't tell you whether or not it has a disctintive aroma.

Heyyyy those Dakota's should join the Dakotas that have the suffix "state" in their name and also go to the gateway!

Sounds pretty sweet, but then the Gateway would be like playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun.

You already raided the conference once, go elsewhere for your next conference expansion.

Mind if the Big Sky raids you instead?

As long as it includes Cal Poly and UC Davis as football affiliate members, I am all for it.

Every now and then Central at least talks about moving up. Western on the other hand would probably drop sports for lack of teams in its division before it made the jump to someting bigger. Western has as many students as Eastern and Central combined, but its interest in athletics just isn't there.
Someone should ask Zamberlin about the Central's chances in FCS. I think he'd say Central's ready.

Central Washington is going to have to wait now with the moratorium handed down this past week by the NCAA. I'm still hopeful that the Sioux can one day be part of the Big Sky.
