While NDSU has had a very successful transition into D1 UND has struggled with mediocre competition. The BISON success has been most impressive on the national scene with big BCS/FBS wins and tremendous success against ranked FCS teams both in the playoffs and reg season.

The BISON are a very competitive MVFC team and alhough they didnt win the conference this season they did indeed finish ahead of the pack and the apparent #1 team in the MVFC. One of the reasons for this success is the NDSU Scheduling Model. As you know every team on the NDSU schedule is a counter.

UNDs schedule is mosty made up of D2/NAIA, transitional teams to D1 and a few FBS games. They are 0-3 against the FBS including a 45-0 route last year at Idaho. They have played 7 D2 or NAIA teams in those 3 yrs losing to 1. They have played 2 transitional teams, splitting. They have 6 FCS wins total in 3 yrs.

I know you folks from the BSC dont have a problem with the 6 lower division games or the fact they are 0'fer against weak FBS competition but the lack of FCS wins and the success with the lower division clubs (almost an identical reverse) tells me they arent ready yet but should look very good in an over-all mediocre conference like the Big Sky.

Both programs are frequent OOC opponents in the MVFC and generally back east. Heck Cal Poly even travels all the way across the country to play them. Those are big games for Cal Poly and its so much fun to watch Slo Stang "live-it-up". Nobody can talk pre-game smack like he can!

At NDSU we are grateful for the St. Francis game. As you know Georgia Southern backed out of a contract to travel to Fargo. I guess they wanted their stay at the top to last as long as possible?

The Red Flash may be a bit over-matched but they are competitors. Both are D1 counters toward the playoffs.

St. Frances has played 5 games against the MVFC, 1 against UNI (lost 30-0 in 2009), and they lost 4 games to YSU (by a combined score of 102-25), and those games were played in 1939, 51, 52, and 53. That's once in the last 58 years. Although going by your math, that is like playing 25 games in 27 years.


Laffayette have never played an MVFC team...

I said STF has played 5 games against the MVFC....2009, 1953, 1952, and 1951, 1939...and those last 4 were agaisnt YSU, who weren't MVFC/Gateway...not even close.

The only FCS conferences Laffayette has ever played against are the Big South (2-2 outscored by 6 points), CAA (22-40 - outscored by 256 points), Ivy (70-159 - outscored by 2508 points), NEC (5-4), Patriot (181-159), PFL (18-4), and SoCon (0-1 - outscored by 11 points)

Both teams count. Both have pedigree of some sort, especially Lafayette. Both are comptitors and have a long list of top teams on the OOC record. Both are old, established programs, especially Lafayetter with 3 National Championships.

These teams are competitors just like UNI and NDSU> Heck UNI lost to one of their peers just last year. They can say they will play anybody, anywhere anytime. Thats something UND and Georgia Southern cant say.

When 99% of your season ticket holders from those years are dead, those games no longer mean anything...

Or when the games are older than your oldest player...they don't mean much.

What does matter, in games that UNI and NDSU have played since NDSU turned D1, UNI is 3-0

The fact that they are old, established programs doesn't mean they are any good. You can keep trying to build these games up to make them sound important, but I think the majority of folks see them for what they are: Two teams from weak conferences that NDSU bought to grab what should be a couple easy wins to help them get to 7 wins and make the playoffs. It is a good strategy when your AD knows that your team will probably lose a few conference games, but stop trying to make these games into something they're not when everyone knows what the deal is.

It is still important to remember that NDSU was supposed to play Georgia Southern for one of the OOC games...had they not bought out the contract we wouldn't be having this conversation. It is a real shame that game can't be played.
